Fonts do not display correctly in new CAD 2016 for Mac

Screen Shot 2016-04-26 at 9.23.35 AM.pngHello,

I have a title block that was made in AutoCAD 2013 and has the fonts and sizes for our company standard. We recently  updated to 2016 CAD for Mac but the fonts do not show up correctly. The original file uses helvetica, but when opened up in the new program (one a new laptop) it looks wrong. What do I need to set up to fix this?

Thank you!

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi.

I think at first you need to verify that you have exactly the same font as you used previously available on your Mac now.
Is "helvetica" you mentioned True Type font? Do you have it the same on your Mac as it was when you was using AutoCAD 2013? Is it one of the standard fonts shipped with OS X? Or it is the font added by user?

Following up on this thread, were you able to resolve the text issue? If you are still having an issue with AutoCAD post back in the thread and provide the additional information mentioned in the previous post.

I'd be more than happy to help.

Hi AnneAUXAD

I am experiencing the same problem.

I tried inserting custom fonts into AutoCAD under .tiff fonts folder and also inserted into font book.

When l go into text editor there are three options of my font style, that being bold, italic and regular.
There should be 5 options I also need medium and light.

This is baffling.
I would love any advice should you manage to fix the problem?

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi Amie,

1. In order to be able to use TTF based font in AutoCAD for Mac you need to add it to FontBook only, no need to add it to TTF folder inside AutoCAD application folder.

2. AutoCAD cannot recognize other then Regular, Bold and Italic styles packed in one TTF font (at the same time most of applications on Mac can do that). If you want to use Medium and Light styles in AutoCAD, you need to add separate fonts for these styles to the FontBook.

3. If you were able to see TTF fonts in AutoCAD 2013 on old Mac and cannot see them on new (another) Mac, then you need to verify that all fonts in the FontBook are the same on old and on new machines.

Hello Maxim,

I am attempting to help resolve some problems with AutoCAD for Mac 2017 that are tangentially related to this post. I don't mean to hijack the post, but from reading many other discussions, you seem to be the most informed and understanding expert in this forum, so I was hoping to get your advice. Our office is PC based, but my boss recently switched to Mac and there have been some issues with fonts.

Our office standard text style uses Century Gothic, a windows native font, so it was being replaced on the Mac and causing problems when printing drafts or setting up text. To address this, we purchased and downloaded a version of Century Gothic onto his computer, added it to Fontbook and attempted to use it as the Alternate Font through the application pane of the preferences window. For some reason, using the .otf file, or any of the other True Type fonts listed in the pop-up window doesn't work. When I select any one of these fonts, the program doesn't seem to acknowledge this, failing to close the popup window or give any other sign of acceptance. If I restart AutoCAD after changing this, before I’ve even opened a document, the same pop-up appears, asking me to select an alternate font to replace one that’s missing.

I am able to see the new font I loaded in AutoCAD, and I can change text manually to Century Gothic Std (the mac compatible font name), but I’m really looking to have the problem solved automatically whenever a document is opened.

I have been able to make this function work perfectly if I chose one of the numerous .shx font files that are listed in the pop-up window, but it doesn’t work with true type fonts. I’ve also tried editing the Font Mapping File, but I’m not sure I had the syntax correct, and the changes didn’t take.

I have also contacted our AutoCAD distributor and had long conversations with their tech support staff and the best suggestion they could come up with was just installing the mac compatible font on all the PC’s in the office and then creating a new text style that uses that font for everyone to use. That’s totally fine if it’s the only solution, but it doesn’t exactly make it easier to use previously created documents. Suffice to say, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Phil,

You created 3 posts about your issue and I decided to move conversation to one place:
