Font issue - ACAD LT 2024 for Mac

RangrStudio

When plotting a drawing (to pdf) the font changes to italic. The same drawing on the same computer works in Autocad LT 2023.

In LT 2024, the font displays correctly on screen, but the pdf output changes the font to an italic verision.

The font is Avenir.

Again, the same drawing plots correctly from the same machine using Acad 2023 or Acad 2022.

Please help.

Hi @RangrStudio ,

Cannot reproduce this problem on my side.

Please clarify: which specific font are you using?

Is it standard Avenir.ttc font which comes with macOS?

What macOS do you have on your Mac?

What printer do you use to create PDF?

Can you share the drawing with this issue here?

Thanks for replying!

Font: Avenir, it is a standard font that comes with MacOS

I am using Monterey, 12.6.3

I use an Epson WorkForce Printer, but I can try AutoCad pdf output if you think it makes a difference. But i was just trying to make a pdf through the plot (and also publish) commands.

I am sharing a simpler file -- my office's starting file for projects. The font issue occurs with this file as well.

I tried with AutoCAD PDF (General Documentation).pc3 in AutoCAD 2024 (full version), both Print and Publish and cannot reproduce.

See attached PDF.

Can you share your PDF from this drawing?

I'm attaching three files.

Autocad 2024 pdf created with my Epson printer selected as output device

Autocad 2024 pdf created using AutoCAD PDF (General Documentation)

Autocad 2022 pdf created with my Epson printer selected as output device

Again, on screen the font is correct in AutoCad 2024, it just plots in italics.

Hi @RangrStudio ,

Are you sure you created Acad2024-epson.PDF and Acad2024-AcadPDF.pdf files with AutoCAD LT 2024?

When I open these PDFs in Preview.app and look at the Inspector window, I see:

2023-04-01_23-39-57.png

PDF creator is AutoCAD LT 2021, but not AutoCAD LT 2024.

Yes, i am 100% sure.

I took a screenshot and made another PDF, attaching both here. Please note Autocad 2024 in the top left corner, and you can see my plot settings window too.

I just tried it from my laptop. I don't get the italics but the pdf text is still bold (compare with 2022 output above).

Hi @RangrStudio ,

I installed AutoCAD LT 2024 and can confirm that "Content creator" in PDF properties is the same on my Mac:

2023-04-02_08-31-39.png

Look like a bug in 2024 version.

As for the font issue - I don't have it on my Mac (see attached PDF). Avenir font appears in PDF correctly.

Don't know why this happens on your Macs.

I also attached drawing created on my Mac in AC LT 2024.

Can you test attached DWG file on your side?

Do you see this problem when you save PDF from it?

Thanks again for your speedy response, @maxim_k !

I plotted your file-- I get the italics.

There is something weird in the way AutoCAD is treating the font. If I select the text and make it "bold" it goes bold. Then to get it back to normal, I actually have to make it italic -- it doesn't go italic on screen, it just becomes normal again. Is this a useful clue?

All my versions of Autocad (2022, 2023, 2024) use the same content creator you highlighted above. But the older versions don't change the appearance of the font when making a pdf.

Jasmit,

Do you have Avenir font installed on your Mac in a place other then "/System/Library/Fonts" folder?

Can you check this in Font Book.app?

Hi Maxim,

You are right, the problem seems to be my desktop and laptop computers. My staff is not having this problem. I did a search for the font via finder and there seems to be only one copy "Avenir.ttc," which is in the System>Library>Fonts folder.

Any ideas? I have none!

Thanks for any help!

Hi @RangrStudio ,

Can you try to create new account on your Mac in Users&Groups pane of macOS System Preferences, login to this new account and test Avenir font problem?

I created a new user, tried a pdf with General Documentation set, and I still get the bold / italic version in the pdf.

I have old versions (2021, 2022) installed. Should I remove them? I don't want to lose my settings / custom command aliases though.

Hi @RangrStudio ,

If you migrated settings from one of the previous releases during AutoCAD LT 2024 installation, try to Reset AutoCAD LT 2024 and don't migrate settings this time.

Test font problem.

Hi Maxim,

Yes, I did migrate the settings.

I reset autocad as you suggested, and tried plotting again, but I got the same result-- Avenir showed up normally on screen, but the pdf was bold & italicizied.

What shall I try next?

Thank you for your continued help!

Hi Jasmit,

Please create a drawing package of one of the drawings with this problem and attach here.

I am having the same Italics issue with New Times Roman...I changed it to another font, but when it is xreferenced in it changes it to Italics again..

While we are here...2024 keeps changing to requiring the shift key to add objects to selection regardless of how many times i have changed it..even when changing drawings.

and the Autosave, i need to turn its on each time I go into the drawing.

Love that it is running on the M1 directly now, but this is the buggiest update I have seen..

Hi @gregoran ,

You can leave your feedback about AutoCAD LT 2024 for Mac here:

https://www.autodesk.com/company/contact-us/product-feedback

>>>>>2024 keeps changing to requiring the shift key to add objects to selection regardless of how many times i have changed it..even when changing drawings

Yes, I can confirm this bug.

Meanwhile while we are waiting for a fix from Autodesk, you can try this workaround:

1/ Create script which changes PICKADD System Variable (don't forget to add a space after 2):

PICKADD 2

2/ Launch AutoCAD with Terminal command:

/Applications/Autodesk/AutoCAD\ LT\ 2024/AutoCAD\ LT\ 2024.app/Contents/MacOS/AutoCAD\ LT\ 2024 -b YOUR_PATH/LT.scr

where YOUR_PATH - is the path to LT.scr script file with the contents I mentioned above.

You can use the same workaround for SAVETIME System variable if AutoCAD resets it on your Mac.

Hi there,

I have exactly the same issue. Needed to plot 60 drawings so I changed the font to Helvetica as Avenir does display correctly but prints bold and in Italics. I look forward to the fix for Autocad Mac 2024
