File read-only alert when opening drawings in AutoCAD after MacOS Big Sur Update

Yesterday, I have made the update for MacOS Big Sur on my computer and after the update, I have been encountering the File read-only alert every time I try to open an Autocad file.

I saw that it was a recognised bug also with Mojave update, I was wondering whether there is a permanent solution to it?

Thank you!

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi Hazal,

It is knowing issue on macOS Big Sur too - if you open DWG file from Network drive by double-clicking on it in Finder.

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi @Anonymous

The solution is to open drawings from AutoCAD with OPEN command - menu File -> Open or button on Toolbar, but not with double clicking in Finder.

That is NOT Mac like.  If we wanted Windows we would run Windows and use Windows version of AutoCAD.  We run Mac's because of its ease of use and the UI.   Double clicking the file to launch the program, even on a network drive, and load the file has been a feature of the Macintosh since day 1.   Autodesk needs to figure this one out and provide a fix.  Please.

You can notify Autodesk through the proper channels here https://knowledge.autodesk.com/contact-support
and here https://www.autodesk.com/company/contact-us/product-feedback

We are only end users just like you around here so ranting at us is totally pointless.

I believe this is an Autodesk owned and run forum and it is not just end users. We have received comments from Autodesk directly in the past.   In addition, expressing frustrations regarding the functionality of the program is not out of the ordinary within this forum.

But to your point, I have notified Autodesk of this issue through the channels in your provided links.

These forums are PEER SUPPORT, users helping other users: ownership has nothing to do with getting your wishes and desires with the software resolved or addressed. Apples and Oranges comparisons, no one from Autodesk's developer teams comes in here to sort through a million posts just looking for user feedback on how to alter the software.

That's the reality.

Glad you took the advice to post in more appropriate areas.

I meant a workaround, sorry if I put it wrong.
