Emailed DWG and DXF not viewable

Hello,

I am trying to email some DWG and DXF files and everyone is telling me they get a blank document. I can open the files on my own computer (MacBook Pro 13-inch, Early 2011), I can't however view any files using DXF View on my own computer.

I'm using

Autodesk AutoCAD 2016 for Mac

OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 (14F1021)

Thanks,

Oscar

Welcome to the Autodesk Forums!

Hi Oskar,

The file you attached here is not empty (see my screenshot in attachment).

How do you email your drawings?

Please describe your steps in more details.

Do you mean you cannot view DXF files you created on your Mac using this:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dxf-view-open-view-dxf-dwg/id717829885?mt=12

application?

After a short investigation I figured out that the application you mentioned in your post - DXF View - is not able to show 3D Solid objects in DWG / DXF files.
So if your drawings contain only such kind of data, and the person you are sending your DWG / DXF files is using "DXF View" application to open your files, than he/she will not be able to see the contents of the drawings.

Maxim,

It's very reassuring that you were able to open the file, and thank you for pointing out the issue with the DXF Viewer.

As far as process for saving and emailing:

- Save As .DWG into folder, drag file from folder into email (Mail version 8.2), then send it out.

Thanks again,

Oscar

If the recipient of the mail can not see the contents of the attached DWG file in AutoCAD, than you may also try to compress DWG before attaching to mail.

Your DWG file is not empty here either: ask your recipients to move the file to their computer and out of the email client first before they open it and see if their issue goes away.
Also find out what program hey are using: if AutoCAD, they can Zoom Extents to see your object.
