Cursor cannot be placed on object snap

hi there,

I am using Autocad for Mac 2018 fort some time. Recently it often happens that the cursor cannot be placed on an object snap point (I have turned on object snap for just about anything - endpoint, midpoint, intersection, etc). It is as if there is a magnetic force repelling the cursor and preventing me from choosing a particular point. It is extremely frustrating as it somtime happens and sometime not, and the problem may appear if one zooms in to the small parts but disappears when zoom out again.

Does anyone knows why this happens? Appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.

Ken

Hi Ken,

Can you record screencast of what happens?
Does this happens in all of your drawings? Even in very simple?

Turn off all running object snaps.
Now try to use OSNAP by calling necessary option just before you need to pick point - you can use OSNAP context menu for this - Shift+right mouse click.
Do you see the same behaviour?

Thank you, Maxine, for your help!

I have made a short screencast (below) - I was trying to use "distance" to measure the distance between the 2 corners. You can see that I manage to click on the left one, but I couldn't click on the right one. It was as if there is a magnetic repelling force. Very difficult to understand. The problem comes and goes. Sometimes it's fine when zoomed out but it appears when one zooms in.

Wasn't sure how to use your suggested method of only turning on Object Snap just before using it....I tend to use Object Snap all the time and usually keeps it on.

Thanks,

Ken

From the video, I can see that you turned on the "snap mode", which a different feature from the object snap mode. It is the second button(highlighted as blue) on the right of the coordinates in the status bar, at the the bottom of the AutoCAD Window.

Just click to turn it off and the issue should be gone.
