Compatibility with OS X Sierra

Quite frankly, I hate to even have to ask this question, but we are approaching the time when Apple releases the latest version of OS X (Sierra). It is currently in Beta 4.  I am wondering where Autodesk is in the process of compatibility review?

This has been an issue for a number of years.  Autodesk continues to place most of its development resource on windows based products. Other software developers seem to be able to be work fairly closely with Apple so that their products work with OS X releases as they come.  Autodesk always seems to have about a 2 -3 month delay.

Does anyone (MAXIM) out there have information about possible compatibility issues and timing for a Service Pack for AutoCad 2016 for Mac and Autocad LT 2016 for Mac?

Skip it until AutoCAD2017 is out and you have it to install, it will be compatible with the new OSX.

I have loaded Sierra and am running 2016 Lt , Autocad bombs out in a split second when i hit plot preview.

Might be worth printing to PDF and thereby avoiding a print preview until a fix comes, have you had any other problems
I have 2015 only.

Thanks so much for the report. Great to have first hand info. If I recall correctly, 2014 had the same issue when Yosemite came out.

@gerrard, Thanks for trying the AutoCAD 2016 on Sierra and sharing the issue you found. It is also found in our internal testing. This crash happened occasionally in previous OSX too, but seems now 100% on Sierra.

You will see this issue fixed in the future update.

As a workaround for now, you can click the "PDF" dropdown button on the bottom left of the Print dialog, and select "Open PDF in Preview". This one should work with no problem on Sierra.

Yes, 2014 LT here (perpetual).  Only bought 2 years ago  and expected a longer product lifecycle than I fear will be the case.

I think I might take the cash-in option but - as many small businesses do - always have the concern about increasing overheads.

Autocad LT for Mac 2016 is compatible with macOS Sierra.

the new MAYA is NOT compatible with OS SIERRA...10.12...launching MAYA 2017 froze the entire desktop rock solid.....a forced restart was the only option.....

anyone know of a patch for update out there for SIERRA or from AUTODESK????

Still working ok? Have you tried most of the tools (Hatch, Stretch,..), attachments, printing,..etc? What MAC are you using? 

 I'm sure it will work for some users as 2015 did with El Capitan, but I'd still recommend waiting for at least a 2016 update (or 2017 release - whichever comes first) before upgrading to macOS Sierra, unless you can test on another MAC or have SuperDuper! (note: I would not recommend using Time Machine to restore unless you have prior positive experience).

Come on AutoDesk! Surprise us with a timely update.

I would not call this an answer. More like wishful thinking.

Key words to note; "99% SURE" and "PARTIALLY COMPATIBLE". That's not good enough for me when it comes to AutoCAD for MAC following the El Capitan fiasco.

Also, "I believe the update will be released soon"? As in a week, month,...? Too vague in terms of AutoCAD for MAC releases.

SketchUp released an update a few days ago which seems to address most of the major issues.

Come on AutoDesk!

I'm anxious to try it since I have SuperDuper! and TB drive, but I'd feel more confident hearing from more users who have successfully upgraded with AutoCAD LT 2016 and avoid a possible full HD restore.

Thanks to all who have shared their experience.  Many of you have expressed the same frustrations I have felt and expressed with regard to a perceived lack of support for Mac from Autodesk.

Many are committed AutoCad users who share their knowledge and experience freely.

My own experience since switching to Mac in 2011 is that the release of a Service Pack updates always take longer than I want it to take, but it always does come.  And in defense of AutoDesk, AutoCad is a very complex program that combines many of the most troublesome features connected with computing - heavy processor use, heavy graphic use, printing and plotting, generally in a networked environment.  Having said that, I still wish that I could feel that there was a stronger commitment to providing stronger support and a more fully developed array of products for OS X.

So, I have Autocad running in Sierra.

Issues to date:

• I have repeated the issue of crashing using preview.  This for me is not a problem since I got out to the habit of using preview during a similar OS X update 2 years ago.
• When printing/plotting to a pdf, pdf underlay files do not appear in the pdf plot.  I am not sure what is going on here.  I have checked to layer attributes, etc.  This needs further investigation.

It would be great if all folks who have installed Sierra and are running AutoCad could help to compile a list of issues experienced in one place.

BTW: I am running Autocad LT Mac 2016 on a MacBook Pro - early 2015, 2.9 GHz Intel Core i5, 16G RAM, Intel Iris Graphics, SSD.  In addition, I have Autocad 2008 installed in Parallels running with Windows 7.

will different individual seats of autocad lt for mac (annual license) be able to open common files from the same file server without read-only locks?

& parallel question: will read only files be identified in the title bar when they are open? [currently not ID'ed in the title bar]

also, very interested to hear of others trying Sierra currently with acad lt for mac

A very relevant question indeed. I have found it problematic also for a couple of years.

It seems that after each update of AutoCAD or Mac OSX the compatibility decreases and Autodesk nor Mac is taking care of this problem 😞

Today, I installed update 3 of AutoCAD 2016LT for MAC. And now, I finally made the decision that is running around in my head for a few months......

...I've just put my Macbook Pro on E-bay. I'm going back to good old Windows.
