Compatibility with OS X Sierra

Quite frankly, I hate to even have to ask this question, but we are approaching the time when Apple releases the latest version of OS X (Sierra). It is currently in Beta 4.  I am wondering where Autodesk is in the process of compatibility review?

This has been an issue for a number of years.  Autodesk continues to place most of its development resource on windows based products. Other software developers seem to be able to be work fairly closely with Apple so that their products work with OS X releases as they come.  Autodesk always seems to have about a 2 -3 month delay.

Does anyone (MAXIM) out there have information about possible compatibility issues and timing for a Service Pack for AutoCad 2016 for Mac and Autocad LT 2016 for Mac?

Hello Maxim, sorry for late reply, I'll try to answer point by point, starting from the problem with PageSetUp:

• Autocad crashes only using the Page Setup Manager, at the moment I'm not having problems if I open the PageSetUp from the Print Window;
• At the moment I don't have a printer installed (good clue, I though that it could be a problem). I will install printers next week and check again;
• It crashes randomly, but quite often, almost always;
• There is no special command, in the PageSetUp window, which makes the software crash, it crashes just using the PageSetUp (from the Page Setup Manager);
• Both, old and new drawings;

About the problem with the spotlight:

• The problem was that the indexing of spotlight wasn't able to finish his job, it runs for hours and hours;
• I had a CrashReport of the Mdworker process. Inside the file the PlugIn Path told me that Autocad2017 was the culprit;
• I have uninstalled Autocad2017 and spotlight has finished his job in one hour;
• Consequently, I have installed Autocad2017 again.

it's ridiculous that after more than 6 months of the full release of Sierra that Autocad LT for Mac is NOT compatible with Sierra.  Should we all go back to DOS to satisfy autodesk?

Which AutoCAD LT for Mac version do you mean?
Here are releases of AutoCAD LT for Mac is compatible with Sierra :
- AutoCAD LT 2015 for Mac with Update 6 applied - avaliable since December 6, 2016
- AutoCAD LT 2016 for Mac with Update 4 applied - available since Nov 6, 2016
- AutoCAD LT 2017 for Mac - initial release

Issue:

You would like to know what versions of AutoCAD for Mac and AutoCAD LT for Mac are supported on Mac OS X v10.12.x (Sierra).

Solution:AutoCAD for Mac 2016, 2015, and 2014 and AutoCAD LT for Mac 2016, 2015 and 2014 versions are currently not compatible with Mac OS X v10.12.x (Sierra). While the programs may launch on Sierra, they have not been designed to run on it. AutoCAD may not operate properly on Sierra. Upgrading the operating system may interrupt or damage your project data and workflow.

It is strongly advised that you check operating system compatibility with your version of AutoCAD for Mac before upgrading your Macintosh to Mac OS X v10.12 (Sierra).

I don't know why Autodesk have not removed them.

Can't believe this post is active again...

Not compatible with what version? Have these users not tried AutoCAD Menu "Check for Updates"? If there's no update available then that's that pre-2015. Exactly how far back do you expect ACAD to continue support with latest macOS?

Personally, I absolutely detest the AutoCAD LT 2017 for MAC UI changes and still have not used it for any work.

I'm using MAC OS Sierra 10.12.4 with AutoCad 2015 for College - Student Version, but I'm getting silly little messages like: Can't find Dictionary, so I can put text on my floorpan drawing. It's driving me crazy as I'm just a student with no money for upgrades. I can't see where or how to upgrade my CAD but If I do, the College tutorials won't correspond as they are for 2015. Im lost, clearly lost. Autodesk are not responding either?

@Anonymous, as a student you can upgrade to the latest version(2017) for free. The download link is as below:

https://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/autocad-for-mac

You need to log in with your student account. You can register a new account if you do not have one.

Then a 3-yr student license will be provided for you.

Hi Jacinta,

Looks like main dictionary file is missing in AutoCAD installation on your Mac.

You can:

- try to reinstall your current 2015 version,

- install 2017 version, which you can get at https://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/autocad-for-mac as Wei suggested in his post HERE

Hi Maxim.

Yes thanks. I've installed update 4 but quirky things keep happening & as I'm a novice I can't be certain if it's me, the programme or my hardware. I'm a student of Interior Design and my college is checking out my Apple Macbook Retina 12inch machine today.

I think it's me though😙

My college is not offering training for 6 months, private tuition is hard to get on a budget (it's all Corporate)Tutorials are no good when you hit a small problem & the Forum takes ages. I have so much to learn in so little time.

I've seen you all over the Forum & you are amazing. I really appreciate your help. Thanks again.

Well, here we all are again....  Apple is talking about the next major update, macOS 10.13 High Sierra coming out in a few months this Fall. It seems like only yesterday that AutoDesk finally achieved full compatibility with the LAST major macOS update.

I hope that AutoDesk is working harder to not get so far behind the operating system this time???

I feel your pain.  This is a given every year. I am not optimistic that Autodesk has amped up the priority level for software development for OS X (I am still waiting for an OS X version of Revit).  Those of us who use Mac will just have to be content with the stale crumbs from the table thrown to us by Autodesk or use a different CAD product.  The inconvenience of waiting for Autodesk updates is far outweighed (at least for me) by the time saved over the course of a year by not using Windows.  I will never (willingly) go back.

I, for one, have no intention of remaining content with the stale crumbs cast off after the Windows version comes out. I intend to make a ruckus as best I can if and when macOS is snubbed. Yes, I am sure that there are more Windows users than Mac users. However, I suspect that the numbers of Mac users would be growing.

Furthermore, since they just switched over the subscription methodology to pretty much force everybody to pay and stay current or else, they should be able to hire enough people to keep the software up to date and be ready with operating system updates. The delay in achieving compatibility when Sierra came out was ridiculous. Apple makes the OS available to developers a long time ahead of each switch specifically to prevent this. 

AutoDesk has created a serious piece of software, and Mac users are a just as serious as Windows users. They need to treat it, and us, as such.
