Can't Create New Layout From Template

Can't Create New Layout From Template

Hello,

When I type "layout" and choose the "from template" option, it creates the template but doesn't insert the dwg file. It's a blank imperial manufacturing template. Am I missing something? Do templates only work for 2d drawings and not 3d objects?

Thanks

Update: I can manually add in the drawings using the "viewport" command, but if I'm not mistaken AutoCAD is supposed to automatically add it in? Seems like a minor bug

Hi,

When you use "template" option of LAYOUT command AutoCAD creates a new layout in the current drawing (the drawing where you use LAYOUT command) based on an existing layout in a template (DWT), drawing (DWG), or drawing interchange (DXF) file.

How it works:

1. You select "Template" option in LAYOUT command

2. AutoCAD opens "Select Template From File dialog" and you after you select DWT, or DWG, or DXF file from which you want to use Layout as template.

3. AutoCAD opens the list of Layouts which are saved in the DWT (DWG, DXF) file you selected in step 3

4. You select the Layout name you need.

5. AutoCAD creates new Layout in the current drawing with the name of the Layout you've selected in step 4. The Layout will contain all objects from Layout you've selected in step 4: Viewports (if any) and other objects - title blocks, dimensions, annotations and everything else (if any) - the contents of Model space from the drawing you selected in step 2 doesn't copied to the current drawing.

This woks for fine.
