Can't change XREF Reference Name in Reference Manage

Can anyone tell how to change the name of a XREF reference file in AutoCAD 2013/2015 for MAC.

As I understand it must be possible to change the Reference Name in Reference Manager, but I can not get it to happen. It seems that there is a bug.

Welcome to the Autodesk Forums!

Hi,

Yes, in Mac version you cannot rename Xref in External References palette, but you can use RENAME command for this.

Call RENAME command, in Blocks section find the name of Xref you want to rename, highlight the name, hit Return - now you are able to edit the name? click on OK button. Now when you save your file the new name of the Xref should appear in the Ref Manager palette.

Adding to this discussion,  I think I ran into the same bug for a PDF underlay.

I changed the filename of a PDF underlay and then the Reference Manager couldn't find it when I reopened AutoCAD.

I did not find a way to rename the PDF underlay's name.

The Reference Manager's 'Edit' button is greyed out and a new name is not saved in the reference manager's 'details' -- 'same bug?' .

And RENAME did not work since PDF underlays don't show up there.

However, using the Reference Manager's 'Relink' button, I was able to link the unchangable Reference Manager name to the new PDF filename;

I now had my underlay and this stuck thru saving, closing and opening AutoCAD.

For organization I would like the two names to be the same new name.

I think I would have to delete the PDF underlay and reinsert it with the desired new name.

I think I'm good now.

SWEET!

Now I can read the layer name when I do XLIST. Filenaming conventions be darned! File name so long XLIST dialog did not have enough room to display the layer name.

Thanks!
