Cad Automatically saves as and makes many copies?

I've been having this problem since the beginning of the semester (1 month) and I have no idea what started it. Every time I start a new drawing, (I use acad.dwt) and save it, cad starts automatically saving versions of it whenever it feels like. In the folder that I saved the drawing in, new ones start showing up. For instance, if the file was called house.dwg, a house 2.dwg, then house 3.dwg just start showing up in the folder. As you can see in the attached picture, it has gone up to 21. The only file that I ever saved or saved as is "moodel.dwg" (ignore the stupid name). I noticed while taking that screenshot that it is also happening to my sketchup files, apparently? So it might be a Mac problem. It has happened to every single file for the past month. It started when I was running Yosemite and Autocad for Mac 2015. I upgraded to both El Capitan and Autocad for Mac 2016, thinking one of those would solve the problem. But alas, it didn't.

If anyone has any ideas please help me out! I'm running out of patience!

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi,

Looks like you have permission problems with this folder. AutoCAD cannot overwrite existing files in it.
Have you tried to create another folder inside your Home folder and test AutoCAD behavior?

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi,

I believe you are working with DWG files placed in the folder which is connected to iCloud some way - this could be iCloud Drive folder or Documents and Desktop folders connected to iCloud via iCloud pane in macOS System Preferences.
If I'm right, than it is knowing issue and the only one workaround is to keep drawings you are working on in the folder which is not connected to iCloud.

iCloud backs up every file on my Mac, I cannot select which files not to back up. Plus, auto cad crashes so many times, I need the backup. I just want auto cad to stop making a new file every time I hit “save” or close a file.

Which release exactly?
10.12.1, 10.12.2 or 10.12.3
I'm asking because I just tested on my side with AutoCAD 2015 and AutoCAD 2016 on 10.12.3 and cannot reproduce the issue with iCloud Drive.

Where do you save drawings on your Mac?

Can you provide full path?

Do you have this option enabled:

So looks like that there is a conflict between AutoCAD 2015 and iCloud sharing feature on Mac. You can treat this as a bug or defect.
The workaround is to put DWG files (and work with them in AutoCAD) outside Documents folder on your Mac and wait until the issue will be resolved by Apple and Autodesk.
If you need to have a copy of your DWG files in iCloud you can copy them after editing to some folder connected to iCloud.

Hi Shawn,

I forgot to ask you another question :

Have you installed the latest Update 4 for AutoCAD 2015 for Mac?

Thanks for all your help on this.  I have updated autocad with update 4.  Since the icloud backs up all files, there is no way around this.  I do hope that autodesk figures this out soon as it is a big problem.  At the end of the day, I have dozens of extra files that autocad automatically created.

Unfortunately now I haven't access to AutoCAD 2015 as it is installed on another Mac. I tested only 2016 and 2017 versions.
Tomorrow I'll be able to test AutoCAD 2015 on that Mac which runs under Sierra.
I will be back with the results.

Hi Shawn,

I tested 2015 version on Sierra on another Mac in another place. I also tested 2016 and 2017 versions on that Mac.
The result was ....
I have the same issue as you (many copies of DWG files which are created on save in AutoCAD) on this Mac in the another place.

So it looks like the issue is related to the Internet connection. In my case I think that the Internet connection on that new place is not so stable (fast ?) as in the place where the issue is not reproducible.

I don't think it's related to internet connection.  It happens every time I hit save or close a file.  No other programs I run do this, so it must be autoCAD-specific.
