Backward text problem in Hebrew (and for all right-to-left scripts)

Anonymous

Hi,

When I copy Hebrew text  in Acad 2016 text box, the text goes like:

'laog' instead of 'goal'

 ןוינח   instead of  חניון

Same problem in Arabic and all languages which right-to-left script configuration is used.

All letters are correct, but placed backwards!

In order to see if the problem is about my Mac, I copied the backward word from the Acad2016 to -Google Search- and to -Words- and see that it automatically corrects itself.

I searched the forum and saw that people with the same problem had written, but got no final solutions.

Can you help?

Do you have all updates applied?

Has this happened before in the past?

Do you have specific TTF or SHX file that you were using?

Hi Sarah,

It is oron.shx and oronb.shx. (in the attachment.)

All the methods I have tried yet failed are listed:

1-Checked fonts with Font Box, fonts are ok.

2-Added Hebrew to Mac system language and keyboard, it did not work.

3-Changed Acad text style to backwards, it did not work

4-Reinstalled shx files, it did not work

5-Loaded hebrew.ttf files, it did not work

Since I have to submit this drawing this afternoon, I found a "temporary and unpractical" solution;

www.textreverse.com

I will actually reverse all text and when I type the reversed one in acad, it will get reversed therefore appear in a correct way :)))

I know it sounds crazy but for now this is the only solution I have.

Still waiting with hope that you can come up with a much better solution.

Thank you

Hi @Anonymous,

I don't speak Hebrew and don't know exactly how to enter Hebrew text in AutoCAD.
But it seems to me that you need two main things for this:
- special Hebrew SHX fonts
- text style based on this font with "Display characters backward" option enabled in this text style.

Hi Maxim,
My question is about how to change the writing direction and not the appearance of the characters. E.g. i dont need "R" to look like "Я", but I want to write in hebrew from left to right. I mean if my word shoud be "א ב ג", then what I get is "ג ב א".

Thank you

When I wrote about "special SHX" font, I mean the font where Hebrew letters are mirrored initially, so when you create Text Style with "Display characters backward" the resulting text looks with correct letters written from right to the left, as you need in Hebrew.

Hi @shlimovi,

I attached drawing with text style I described earlier, in the archive you can also find "Special" SHX file which I used for that Text Style.

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi Alla,

You can find "Display the characters backwards" option in Text Style window:D296E8E1-ED7C-40CA-AE0C-CD9CE9CAC673.jpeg

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi Maayan,

As I mentioned before, I don't speak (and use) Hebrew, but please look at this post:
https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-forum/hebrew-in-autocad/m-p/7714272#M916823

Maybe you will be able to find the answer on the Archijob Forum mentioned there.

I fixed it once, but unfortunately, I don't remember how and I don't use
AutoCAD anymore. So I'm just writing to tell you that it is possible, yet
tricky, as far as I remember. Try Israeli AutoCAD/Architects Facebook groups

Have you rules out these issues in a similar post

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-for-mac-forum/hebrew-fonts-for-autocad-for-mac/td-p/4877994

Are you using an SHX font (for Hebrew) and trying to make it work inside MTEXT (and/or Mleader)? MTEXT defaults to using TTF fonts more often than not, plain TEXT (and single line Attributes) does not have that limitation so SHX fonts work great there.
