AutoCAD online course for landscape design

Hi everyone,

I'm an ecologist working for a small consultancy in New Zealand, and lately I've dabbled a bit more in landscape design as well as ecology. For ecology work I primarily use ArcGIS, but I think I will need to bite the bullet and learn to use AutoCAD to enable me to prepare more detailed drawings. I'm a complete beginner with AutoCAD so I am looking for an online course (or a course in New Zealand) that would enable me to learn the basics of AutoCAD and specifically be designed to help me prepare detailed landscape drawings and all the addon programmes I could use with AutoCAD?

I've looked at Udemy & Lynda and there is nothing specifically designed for landscape design...I'm looking for something I could just immense myself and get the most out of it in a short amount of time. Anyone have any suggestions/links?

I have the full AutoCAD 2019 version fyi.

Many thanks,

Maddy

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi Maddy,

AutoCAD is general purpose software and if you want to use it for landscape design you need to create your own workflow for such purpose. I'm afraid, you will not be able to find online corses specifically dedicated to landscape design in AutoCAD, especially on Mac.
If you are new to AutoCAD, I'd suggest you to start to learn AutoCAD as general purpose CAD software. Also keep in mind that there is no special third party additions for AutoCAD for Mac for landscape design, while for Windows version of AutoCAD they exists.

In addition to the reply above, this website has symbols libraries that cater to your industry https://www.caddetails.com/

If you are able to run the way more popular Windows version of AutoCAD, you can also purchase/install this add-on https://apps.autodesk.com/ACD/en/Detail/Index?id=4161882406786451750&appLang=en&os=Win64
and https://www.landfx.com/fxcad-2020.html#view

or different software altogther https://www.dynascape.com/design/

Good luck.

Thanks for all of your advice - I can run it on Windows as well, so that shouldn't be an issue. Perhaps from a landscape design perspective there is a better software that can still integrate dwg drawings from engineers/architects (more user friendly geared towards landscape design primarily) to run that you guys would recommend?

Fantastic thread so far. I'm so much glad to know more about you. I also have an intention to something like gardening. I'm a university student. In my leisure time, I love to do gardening. My all setup is done already. I just need to design the landscape with lightening. I started visiting some of the website who provides such kind of nice, reliable, eye-catching and affordable lightening service www.backyardstyle.com/best-landscape-lighting/

Let me know if you know about any reliable vendor who provides such kind of service. Thank you!
