Autocad LT version won't open a particular drawing after 2017.2 update

I've recently updated auto cad LT with the 2017.2 update. (Less than a month ago). One particular drawing refuses to open. I didn't have this problem before the update. A colleague has opened it successfully in their version, and has also created a DXF but it still won't open on my machine. I've tried importing, referencing - but it just refuses to acknowledge it. Even the tab at the top of the page doesn't materialise. The file is unlikely to be corrupt, and is a survey we commissioned. Any help appreciated please...

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi Debbie,

>>>>A colleague has opened it successfully in their version
Does your colleague has the same AutoCAD version on the same platform (Mac) as you?

It is really hard to say anything without having your problem drawing at hand. Can you share it here?

Hi

please find attached the drawing. It's very odd, in that I opened it before the new update/updating subscription in December of last year. It's only with this new version that I appear to be having problems. I've no idea why since I can open all other drawings that I have on file. Any help you can give would be appreciated.

I meant to add, my colleague does not have a Mac. This may be of use.

I can reproduce the issue on my side: I cannot open your drawing in 2017 version with latest Updates, but I can open it in 2016 and 2018 versions.

I think the problem is in hatches which appear as blocks in your drawing when I open it in 2016 or 2018 versions.

Finally I was able to "repair" your drawing by opening it in 2018 and saving it to new file with -WBLOCK command.

I believe some unused objects were purged from the drawing during -WBLOCK command, but now I am able to open it in 2017 version.

See attached.

Hi

Maxim K very Kindly helped me with a problem, opening a cad file (which has been saved in 2010) in the 2017.2 update version (my software). He converted it and reported that there was a 'block' problem. The drawing I want to open is a topographical survey from a company I have started to use often (for building and land surveys). They have sent through another survey, and I cannot open this one also. Is there a solution to this? Can they save in a later version so that my version can open it? I don't want to have to rely on others helping me out with this every time they send a survey through. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
