AutoCAD LT 2017 for Mac

I'm a engineer & been using AutoCAD LT on iMac for a month or so with no problem then started getting this error below when try to open AutoCAD files sent to me by other consultants.

AutoCAD LT Message

Cannot find the specified drawing file.

Please verify that the file exists.

Anyone else had this problem & maybe know the cause and/or a solution ?

Hi,

How are you trying to open drawing?
Do you double click on it in Finder or use OPEN command in AutoCAD?

Greetings,
I've tried double click on it and tried open thru AutoCAD menu and also drag & drop on to AutoCAD icon with same error result. Also confirmed "get info" to make sure all dwg opens with the AutoCAD LT. Also tried reset AutoCAD to default & no change.

Where the drawings you got from consultants are located?
What if you start new drawing in AutoCAD, save it to Desktop, close, quit AutoCAD, launch it again - can you open the file you saved to Desktop?

Hi,

I may have narrowed down the problem somewhat.   I've done more testing of other & older AutoCAD files & they work fine.  All files open easy on a double click. Newly created saved files also work fine.

The recent AutoCAD files sent to me ( that I'm having the issues with ) have been from clients who have recently upgraded their windows AutoCAD and windows Revit to 2017.   The files are posted & downloaded from clients ftp site.   One small size roof plan file is zipped & attached .

It could be that AutoCAD LT Mac just does not recognize the new windows AutoCAD version 2017 saved files yet.

PS .. These same files do open on a friends windows AutoCAD so it may be an issue specific to 2017 AutoCAD LT Mac.

Hi Jim,

The case of the problem (AutoCAD cannot find specified file) is in the name of the drawing:

2017-02-03_CAD Backgrounds\FloorPlan-RoofBackground.dwg

AutoCAD for Mac cannot open files with backslash characters in the file names. You need to rename file by removing backslash from its name, tan you will be able to open the drawing.

Please pay attention also to this article about the names of files in cross-platform environments:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202808

Maxim,

THANK YOU VERY MUCH !   I have tried the suggested renaming & it works 100% of course.  The Apple article you suggested about the names of files in cross-platform environments.   https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202808  is printed & added to our work manual.

I'm having the same issue using Autocad LT 2017 for Mac, but there is no slash or backslash in the file name.  Saved to my desktop and still have the same issue.

Hi,

Do you have the problem just with one drawing?
If yes - Can you share it here?
