AutoCAD for Students: Presspull freezing MBP

AutoCAD for Students: Presspull freezing MBP

Hello. I apologize for now for my lack of AutoCAD knowledge. My son is doing online studies as we are in quarantine for the coronavirus. His CAD class is now being worked on with my 2012 MBP, Catalina 10.15.4:

  Model Identifier: MacBookPro9,1

Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Core i7

  Processor Speed: 2.7 GHz

  Number of Processors: 1

  Total Number of Cores: 4

L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB

  L3 Cache: 8 MB

  Hyper-Threading Technology: Enabled

  Memory: 8 GB

He is using the student license for AutoCAD 2018. He was able to get some drawings done (I think 2?) but hasn't been able to finish his last 4 assignments. The problem he tells me is using PRESSPULL holds up everything. He gets the spinning rainbow that lasts for several minutes before he can make the next move, if that happens at all. The program then freezes and he has to exit out and lose all his work. Also, he said he's not using BLOCKS (this is in reference to some other solutions we've read).

I attached his file if that helps. Please note the name of the file: House Project Not Broken_1 as there have been many versions as it kept crashing. :cara_de_decepción:

Can someone please help him? Thank you so much.

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi Kael,

You forgot to attach drawing :cara_de_decepción:
Can you try to attach it again?
I can confirm that in complex drawings PRESSPULL command can freeze AutoCAD for a long time, because calculating closed area can take a lot of calculations. The recommendation is to hide objects not involved in object creation using HIDEOBJECTS command or by turning off Layers with unnecessary objects.

Anyway, waiting for your drawing, will look at it.

Hi Kael,

Look at the attached drawing.

What I have done to prepare for using PRESSPULL:

- created separate layer for blocks and moved them all to that layerr, turned it off temporary

- created separate layer for text and moved all text objects to that layer, turned it off temporary

- used OVERKILL command to clean drawing (the part of the drawing which now is visible). OVERKILL has found:

140 duplicate(s) and deleted them, 150 overlapping object(s) or segment(s) and deleted them

So now you can try to use PRESSPULL command. In most cases it works fine on my side. There are some areas in the drawing which are not closed, so you also need to verify them.
