AutoCAD 2015 for Mac with OS X Yosemite CRASH!!!

I used to have AutoCAD 2014 when I updated to the latest operating system (OS X Yosemite). However, it kept on crashing, and it was then when I found out that AutoCAD wasn't compatible with Yosemite yet. As a result, I decided to update to AutoCAD 2015 since it was compatible, but it seem to change anything since it keep on crashing. Is anyone experiencing the same issues?

Hi Maxim and others,

 

I was searching in this discussion for an answer but I seem to have an other problem than most people. My Acad'15 works en saves fine but when I open another file it crashes 7 out of 10 times. It also happens when I insert a block, insert reference, insert a PDF or insert an image. For opening new files I found a solution. When I select the file in Finder then Acad opens fine. But it should just work as it is meant to, and what to do with the other bugs?? Each day I spend +/- 45min. recovering my work so I really hope you could help me.

 

I already installed the Acad workaround.

Hi jeroen,

 

Which view you have active in file operations dialog? If it is "column view":

try to switch it to list view:

Ah, he is lucky his AutoCAD actually opens. 

My AutoCAD LT 2015 has COMPLETELY stopped responding. 

Can you please advise on how to obtain a refund from Autodesk?

Hi Maxim,

 

So far so good! I haven't had a crash after I used the settings you suggested.

I really prefered the column setting. But hey, now I can continue my work and make money.

hi Maxim, 

I've been trying with the reset option you gave me the other day, pressing shift before and during the opening of AutoCAD LT 2015. Apparently, it doesn't work anymore.... I want to thank you personally for the efforts, but I have to say that it is an absolute shame that Autodesk sells a product so unstable and so full of problems. My machine meets all the system requeriments to run AutoCAD LT and still, I stopped working and nothing can seem to be effective in bringing the AutoCAD back.

Again, stuck here with a program that doesn't start - doesn't work and NO answers. 

Any chance that anyone who knows a bit about this could respond?

Hi,

 

So it appears that resetting AutoCAD doesn't helps to restore it's functionality any more.

Could you post here the contents of System.log from Console application at the moment when you are trying to launch AutoCAD?

 

Have you also tried to create new user account on your Mac (just temporary account for testing purposes - you can delete this account later), login to it and launch AutoCAD from this new account?

Sorry for the length of the previous post, I didn't realize that it had copied so much stuff from the console app. 

The other part, I have never used the AutoCAD log in account to "log in" into my subscription. I used it just by opening the program, with the page for Autodesk open in the background or not. Mainly not. 

I could create another account, but please guide me here, how would it help solve the problem if the action of opening the program is not linked to the identy used online since I am not accessing the program onlime. 

I will try that right now and will let you know, thanks.

Thanks Maxim, for all your efforts. 

I created a new account id for Autodesk. Try to open my AutoCAD LT 2015, it didn't work either. What really puzzles me is that it was working properly before, and now for some reason it seems not to be recognized or something similar. 

I would like to solve this, or I will have to learn another drafting and design program.

I meant to create new account on your Mac, but not new Autodesk ID. But after looking at System.log,
I think there is no need to try with different account, because from the System.log I see that there is a problem with AutoCAD license manager on your Mac for some reason. Looks like it tries to activate AutoCAD session but fails.
I am not aware how activation process works with rental license (I suppose you have such kind of lisence).
For proprietary standalone licence there is a method for resetting AutoCAD license. Please look at this topic - my last post after I wrote about resetting AutoCAD :

Crashing issue is persisting for me consistently for about 4 months now. The OpenGL trick did not help at all. Issue occurs with every single drawing I attempt to create in AutoCAD 2015. All are simple/complex 2D drawings. Crashes are reproducible, usually occur during simple act of drawing a line or shape, and frequently when attempting to rotate a line. Also, when attempting to save a file, AutoCAD crashes every single time and doesn't actually save any progress, so at this point the program is useless. Crashes usually occur with CER, and I have submitted reports every time but have never received an email back informing me that a fix is available. Crashes like this have occurred since I first updated to Yosemite and have persisted on every single version including the most recent (10.10.5). My Mac configuration is as follows: 15" MBP, Mid 2012 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 8GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB Troubleshooting I have tried: Enabling OpenGL in Preferences>General. Uninstall and reinstall AutoCAD 2015. Reinstall OS X. Please any help would be greatly appreciated. I can no longer use this product in it's current condition and it is 100% necessary for my schooling. Thank you for any help.

EDIT: I have updated AutoCAD with the 2 Maintenance Updates. Crashing persists when attempting to save 2D drawing and when I attempt to view/add more layers to a drawing. Also tried more troubleshooting on my own: launched AutoCAD in safe mode (holding shift on launch) and tested issue in new user admin account, all issues persist.

Hi,
I cannot advice you anything, because you've tried all possible solutions to the problem yourself. Except one - try to use AutoCAD for Mac on another Mac.
I personally used AutoCAD on several Macs and never had issues you described.
BTW : how much free space is on your Mac hard drive?

I had all the same issues you have. What I did, and in fact, what worked, was to click on active OpenGL Core profile in preferences. If you have it active,deactive restart autocad and active it again... And finally restart autocad. It really works.

Hi Timothy,
This might sound like a weird question but what mouse are you using? First i used a Trust mouse which caused a lot of bugs in AutoCad. Just try a (new) logitech mouse from a friend before you throw your Mac out of the window.

I have over 700GB of free space on my internal HD. I do not have the ability to use another Mac, this is my only computer and I really don't see the point in having to purchase a whole other computer just to use AutoCAD. I have had scores of classmates with very similar issues. It is a shame that AutoDesk provides so little in ways of support for their products. My only choice, at this point, will be to install AutoCAD on my Windows 10 partition, which honestly is a massive inconvenience.
