assigning extrusion lengths

For some reason the length of my extrusions jumps suddenly to increase further from the selection I've made upon pressing enter as per the attached example from (see pic a) to (see pic b). Is this something to do with object snap perhaps?

Could be so.
Try to turn off OSNAP.
