I'm using the term Slide as opposed to Move because I'm looking for a different type of behavior.
The Move Component command leaves the existing wires in the same location, but allows the component to be moved to a different location. The existing wires are healed when the component is removed. The Scoot command is closer to what I want the slide command to be, but still has pretty strong restrictions on how the component can be moved on the wires.
What I'm hoping for the Slide command is something more like how Visio handles the moving of symbols and attached lines. In this case the wires stay attached and are re-routed as the component is moved. Wires would stretch, shrink, add and remove bends, etc. as needed. Optimally, the user would see this happen in real time by "rubber banding" the wires.
All updates to component tags, cross references, wire numbers, etc. would happen automatically when the component is placed in the new position.
This functionality would greatly improve productivity for wiring diagrams, and for general overview drawings. This would also really help to swing users from using Visio like tools to the more intelligent and powerful AutoCAD Electrical.
