why do I get File not found: WD_MLRV.DWG when I'm trying to insert a ladder in my drawing ?

It happens specifically when the Drawing properties\drawing format\format referencing is set to:

reference numbers

while in

X-Y Grid

X Zones

format referencing modes the "insert ladder" (AELADDER) is working fine.

Mostly because the schematic symbol libraries are set up wrong.
Right-click your project in the project manager, and select properties.
Check that the schematic symbol libraries are correctly set up.

thank you for replying sir,

I went into project properties and tried to :

1. change the electrical code standards to: IEC
this change made no difference
2. from the drawing format tab i changed the format referencing to Reference Numbers:
this change made no difference also

would you please explain or point me to an explanation of how "Check that the schematic symbol libraries are correctly set up" is done correctly.

I appreciate your time and effort to help.

I don't use IEC libraries, but I know that one of them is messed up and out of date. Trond may be speaking about that? A screenshot of the error message would be helpful here.

Have you checked to make sure the file exists? That should always be the first thing to do when ACADE can't find a file.

Do a search on the whole computer to see if the file exists at all. If it does, then you could just copy it into the location where ACADE is telling you it should be. That's the quickest fix but it doesn't address the root issue - why the file was in the wrong location to begin with (or conversely, why ACADE was looking in the wrong spot for the file). If this ends up being the case, then at that point could we start to look at how your libraries are set up, or investigate other possibilities. If you find yourself in this position, post back and let us know the following: where the file was; where ACADE thought the file should be; which IEC library your are using.

If the file doesn't exist, then you'll need to take a few steps to try and get it back. It's a standard symbol that ships with the software, so we should be able to 're-obtain' it. Do these things in this order, checking in between each step to see if ACADE can find the symbol. Before starting, back up all of your custom stuff, CUI configs, etc.

1. Reset to defaults - found in the Start menu

2. Repair the installation - found in Add/Remove Programs...go throught the steps as if you want to uninstall, you'll see this option pop up along the way

3. Reinstall the software - only do this if the above actions didn't work

Let us know how it goes, what you tried and what the results were.

THESE are what I'm talking about:

If you don't have any AutoCAD Electrical training, I really recommend that you get some. This is basic AcadE stuff that should be covered in a training.

yes, your explanation solved the problem. THANK YOU !!

here what I did according to your recommendations:

1. I searched windows for wd_mrlv.dwg file
2. It showed the locations of the folders where it exists (see attached screenshots)

3. I added the locations to the libraries in the project properties list (JIC125 / JIC1 / NFPA libraries mainly)

4. tried the insert ladder in reference numbers format and it worked well.

the reason of the error is that it was looking in the wrong libraries in my documents file & disk.

rather than the Autodesk file on the C:\public\users\documents\Autodesk\Acade 2021\Libs

for example you can see on the second screenshot it was looking in
C:\public\users\documents\Autodesk\Acade 2013\Libs

among other paths (see screen shot "location of libs.jpg" attached)

why is this happening? I don't know. but Autocad seems to create various location on the desk and in my documents folder and it may easily conflict with other existing folders previously existing.

I want to sincerely thank you for your help and the time you took to advise and help me.

this was super helpful and solved the issue.

The paths for the symbol libraries are stored in the project fil (*.wdp). This is unfortunately how it is with AcadE, so you'll have to fix this in all proejcts, as you open them.'

This being said, you can set some default values in the wd.env file, and easily populate these values into your projects, using the "default"-button in the project properties dialog (first tab).
