Wanting to change the default component layer colors

I'm a new user to ACADE, but I've been working with ACAD and ACADM for years.  In ACADM, I seem to recall you could modify the default layer names and colors of mechanical components when you inserted them into a drawing.  Now in ACADE, I've noticed I can change the default layer names, but not the default colors.  There are two of us in the office using ACADE and when he inserts a terminal block, his text layers come out in different colors.  When I insert the same terminal block in my drawing, all the corresponding layers are white.  I'm sure there is a way to change this, but I'm finding nothing online.  Anytime you mention layers and colors in Google, it just defaults back to the basic layer manager.  I want to override the defaults and don't want to have to set it up in a template file unless I really have to.  Thank you!

Hi there,

So you type LAYER on the command line.  You check which layer you want to be active.  You click on the color box and select the color you want for that layer from the pop up window.  Now if you draw a line or something like that it will be that color you selected for the layer.  The block you are inserting will have defined layers and colors when it is added to the drawing which can effect the appearance.  Are your settings and blocks the same as your coworker?

Use the little check icon to set as current.  You can also open the block you are inserting and compare the setting to the block your coworker is using.

Well, if both installations are default installs, you shouldn't be seeing anything different between the two workstations. this can only happen if the settings on the layers are different between the drawings. If everything is white on your drawings, then all of the layers are set to that color. Either the drawings were based on two different template files, or someone changed the layer colors in one.

What happens if you open your coworker's drawing? Are the symbols they inserted white on your workstation? (They shouldn't be.)

Now, on to your bigger issue: controlling the default layer properties. We are stuck with doing this via template files. However, I did post an idea on the IdeaStation for this. It only has 2 votes since 12/2015 lol, but that was enough to get it 'under consideration'. Usually takes more to get that far, so someone at Autodesk must think there's merit to the idea.

Please vote it up to increase the likelihood of its implementation:

Sorry I didn't have a real solution for you on this one, we're stuck with the work around for now.
