When I try an attached the Panel layout as a xref, cad just closes. I've attempted to check log file and it just lists regen and then nothing following. Could someone please let me know a way to figure out what is wrong.

Using Autocad Electrical 2019.

Can you give us a description of the workflow you're using? Which commands, etc?

It almost sounds like you need to reset to defaults to get the XREF command back to working properly but I'd like more info on how you're doing things before recommending that.

If you can make a Screencast, that would probably be best.

Basically I've not done much to that file other then move items, add new Ordinate Dimensions.

Next I open a separate layout drawing and update xref with that file. Once i get ignore missing shx files it crashes cad completely. Log files show it overlay's, then moves into regen step and nothing after that. No error codes or anything.

Not much more going on. I can't figure out what is wrong in order to look/try a fix.

You can detach and clean attach as an new xref, but updating existing xref just immediately closes autocad.

When it moves into the regen step, does the software crash completely or does it just hang up? If it hangs up, what's the longest time you let it grind before deciding it wasn't going to do anything?

Try these steps, in this order: (back up all of our customizations first)
1. Reset to defaults (generally found listed in the Windows Start menu)
2. Perform a Repair (go through the motions as if you want to uninstall, you'll see the 'repair' option along the way)
3. Do a reinstall

If none of this fixes your problem, then to me that implies that there is an issue with one or maybe even both of the files.

If that ends up being the case, try this:
1. Run the AUDIT command on each file, and tell it to fix all the errors it finds. (Note, this is the Vanilla audit, not to be confused with the ACADE command 'electrical audit')
2. After running the audits, purge everything out of the drawings that you don't need, using the command PURGE.
3. Run AUDIT again, per drawing.

If none of this works, I would then open up a case with Autodesk concerning the problem.

Reset my Autocad to defaults, appears to have fixed it.
