Starting out - questions regarding templates and drawing sizes

Howdy,

Still learning here.

I outgrew the size of the ACAD_ELECTRICAL_IEC.dwt template while sketching my circuit, and besides, I would be better off with a non-standard Portrait orientation for my drawing.

First I thought that replacing the underlying .dwt of my .dwg would be easy, and will give me more drawing area, but it appears that it's a lot more nuanced with the Swap/Update.

OK, then I thought about editing ACAD_ELECTRICAL_IEC.dwt, but it is not clear to me how drawing size is established if creating / editing a .dwt.

OK, gave up and tried to create a new drawing from ACE_ANSI_B_Color.dwt, and I found out with default 1:1 scaling, a single switch occupies the entire drawing. Funny!!!

 

If my desired final output was US Tabloid paper size (aka ANSI B), 11 inches wide by 17 inches tall, Portrait mode, whats the easiest course of action to re-fit what I already started here with the ACAD_ELECTRICAL_IEC.dwt template? And if anyone works with Tabloid paper size, what is the suggested scaling options for optimal readability / possible circuit complexity?

I find that having the titleblock in Paper Space and doing all drawings in Model works best for me.

 

In model space, I drew a border rectangle that fit within the viewport perimeter in Paperspace.

The .dwg was empty when I opened it.....


Since you want to use 11x17 and IEC, you need to scale the titleblock up so it is measured in mm (if you want to keep it in modelsspace). That is why the symbol was so big. So, the titleblock needs to fit within 431x279

I use NFPA for my symbols but I scaled the model space border up to 31"x21" to fit within the viewport I created in the paper space titleblock.


This gives me a ladder that is 30 rungs tall with 1" spacing between rungs. There is no trouble reading the scaled down schematics when printed.
