Source Signal Codes Not Working When Working Remote

Anonymous
Not applicable

When working on my home laptop over the VPN I create source signal codes (letting ACADE just generate the next available code, i.e. SIG001, and so on). However, when I go to place a destination signal code on another sheet it doesn't find the source signal code. I do a freshen and still nothing. I've even attempted a AEREBUILDDB for a rebuild. I'm using the same settings and environment file as my work computer and have all available drives/paths available. I also tried deleting the scratch project database for that project, then did an AEREBUILDDB, but none of that worked. However, when I use my work computer I have no issues and everything works fine. Again, this is remote over a VPN using the same software version, settings, and environment help.

Any thoughts or fixes on this would be very appreciated!

You are are this is related to VPN?
What if you work with a local project, like the demo projects?
Will running the WD_REF_SIGS command update the cross-referencing?

Can you confirm your both office and acade 2021 are 64 bit? Do you have upto date windows updates?

I have tried this as well. Also, my work computer is a laptop that I can bring home and remote into the VPN as well without any issue. My home laptop is just faster and saves me from bring home my work laptop every night.

So, this only happens on your private laptop? Not on the work laptop when using VPN from home?
What was the result of working with a demo project? And.. were you able to manually update the cross-references?

So I have tried a bunch of things including reinstalling ACADE on my personal laptop. Local projects (copying a work one to my local drive) or the demo projects work without an issue. Disabling my firewall also did nothing.

When I create a source signal and then go to another sheet to the destination it appears briefly in the box and will link.

However, if I right click and retag/update the destination it will lose the link and go to ?? for reference number.

Also, if I have the destination box open where it briefly shows the source code if I hit freshen it will disappear.

I am able to access our SQL catalog database for components, open drawings, etc. It seems like something isn't working to update the project database itself. I also tried an older project from a couple years ago and the problem was the same over the VPN.

Same VPN, Same mapped network drives, same ACADE settings, same environment file, etc.

Did you check your office and acade are same 64bit? If you are using acade 2021, do you have Microsoft Database Engine 2016 installed? One of my clients have same issue - it was resolved by installing same 64 bit office acade.

I have verified that I have 64 bit ACADE installed. Also, I don't know if it would be the issue considering it works when I have a local project on my laptop. Just not across the VPN with my personal laptop. From C:\Windows\System32From C:\Windows\System32From C:\Windows\SysWOW64From C:\Windows\SysWOW64From C:\Windows\SysWOW64 Under User DSN it shows 64 bit platform for MS Access Database. From C:\Windows\SysWOW64 Under User DSN it shows 64 bit platform for MS Access Database.

I guess the personal laptop (ID)  is not in the IT's approved equipment list for VPN connection. Probably only IT can resolve this VPN issue.

I tend to agree with Ramesh. It seems like an IT problem. I have found that if I setup the project folders to a mapped drive to work offline, I do not have to be connected to the network. The only caveat is that no one else can work on that project at the same time or drawings would get out of sync. Then when I VPN in or return to the office, I just re-sync the "Work Offline" files and everything is happy.

If you leave your work laptop at work, have you tried VPN connecting from your personal computer and then connecting to the work laptop via Remote Desktop and working from there? This sometimes is faster than trying to pull the files back and forth across the internet....

I apologize for taking so long to respond. I had my IT guy take a look and we added everything to match up with what my work laptop has. I have been able to access our SQL server that holds our catalog database so initial network access is not the problem. I've tested multiple projects across the network that sit on our server with no success, but still local ones on my laptop worked fine. I copied one of the projects on our work server and copied it to a folder on the same server across the VPN. When I did this the source/destination signals worked without any issues. However, if I open older projects from 1-2 years ago I still have the same issue where it doesn't seem to update the project database. AEREBUILDDB doesn't update it, and I am running out of things to try...

I'm still struggling with this issue and have been working with support from RAND/IMAGINIT. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling microsoft office. When I went to reinstall I was prompted that it could not install the 64 bit version until I uninstalled 2010 access database engine. So I uninstalled the 2010 access database engine and was able to re-install office. Unfortunately, this was not the ifx I was looking for. Everything works fine on my normal work laptop over the VPN into our server, but not with my new laptop. I can't find anything different. The weird thing is if I add wire numbers and source codes they don't seem to write to the access scratch database. However, if I activate another project and come back to the original project they will show up. I'm not sure what happens when you activate a project for it to finally work, but AEREBUILDDB is not doing anything for me. It's the only user account on this laptop. The only other thing I have noticed is if I click configure I get the follow error and it eventually says "operating system is not presently configured to run this application" .... not sure if that points to any issues...image.pngimage.png

Just out of interest, have you tried by installing lower version of acade either 2020 or 2018?

I have not attempted any other versions of ACADE on this particular laptop. I have had 2021 running successfully on multiple machines in other departments without issues. However, they have all had a previous version of ACADE installed at some point (i.e. 2018, 2019, and 2020).

I normally keep two versions running to troubleshoot quickly, personal preference.
