Project Manager Missing?

Anonymous
Not applicable

When I open up ACAD Elec 2016  all menus are greyed out and there is no project manager menu.  This Install has bee working fine for 6 months and got flaky when I opened a std ACAD drawing from a client.   I can get to teh manager if I create a new drawing but all the Electrical Functions give me an erro r  of Malformed string when executed (think Wire Number etc)

Any Ideas?

Run the " Reset settings to Default - AutoCAD Electrical" program from the Start menu

For Win 10: Windows Menu > all apps> AutoCAD Electrical > Reset settings to Default - AutoCAD Electrical.

For Win 8 And 8.1  Windows Key > type "Reset Settings" then hope you get the right one...

For Win 7: Start Menu > Autodesk > AutoCAD Electrical 20XX >  Reset settings to Default - AutoCAD Electrical

Start Menu - Reset.png

Please note: If you have Customization that was done, BACK IT UP BEFORE you use the Utility.

I hope this helps,

James

This works but only until I restart my computer. When I restart and try to open Autocad the project manager is gone again and I have to do the reset again.

Hmm,

If it keeps Resetting I'm betting that there is an IT policy (or Anti-Virus) that's blocking it.

You may need to check that the folders (program files and your roaming User profile) are not locked.

If it still gives you grief, I would suggest un-installing and re-install with the best practices.

Disable anti-virus (DO NOT go to un trust sites while doing this)

Turn UAC to its lowest level ( put it to level 1 or level 2, the default is the third notch which is level 3... if you are unlucky enough to have it at the 4th level then the program will never run properly)

The Full instructions can be found here:

I hope this helps,

Try changing/cycling through your workspace layout in the bottom right, this was a simple fix for me.

I ran the utility.  It asked me if I wanted to save my customizations.  I replied yes and it created a zip file.  When the utility was completed I try opening the zip file and it was empty.  Now get to spend hours getting everything back the way I need it.  Just another adventure in the continuing saga of AutoCad Electrical.

You Didn't read my last part, did you?

I said:  "If you have Customization that was done, BACK IT UP BEFORE you use the Utility."

( maybe more grammatical correct if I said - If you have Customizations that were done, BACK IT UP BEFORE you use the Utility."

So if you have a custom setup Always use the "CUI" to Transfer/Save the CUI or CUIX file before running the reset utility. I find that the Reset almost never backups it up.  (I have seen it work a few times out of a few hundred resets.

I'd say from what I have seen, I would guess its success rate is maybe 5%)

Just so you have the basics, Type in CUI at the command line, switch to the Transfer Tab, Drag your workspace over from the Left  window to the right window, then click on the floppy disk to save.

I hope this helps,

Worked instantly, switched to ACADE 2D and back to my custom workspace.
Thanks! Never would have thought of that.
