Problem inserting contacts

Hi all.

I have a problem with Autocad Electrical 2018.  I have downloaded the free trial and am having some trouble when inserting contacts in a 3 phase circuit.  It can be a contactor or disconnector (not tried anything else).  When I insert the first contact and then select the direction, the contacts are not inserted into the adjacent wires, but very close (0.5mm away) to the first contact.  How do I correct this problem please.  I must add that I am not that familiar with 2018, the last Autocad Electrical I used in anger was 2006.  Thanks for any help you can give.

Best regards

Rich

I'm not an expert in 2018 but have used it enough.  I didn't think there was much to these.  I have attached the command that is used when going into icon menu wizard.  It should just find the wires below.  Is there any way you could attach the parent and child contacts that are being used with your example for me to try to see if I get the same results you are?

It sounds to me like you've used a project made for imperial units as a template for your project, where you're using metric units...

Have a look at this setting in drawing/project properties:

Hi Thomas

The icons are correct. I am using the coil block (VMS1), and the contacts are (VMS21P).  I am using vertical ladder (3 wires) and when inserting the 3 n/o contacts from the icon menu I insert the icon onto the left hand wire and select for the other contacts to go to the right, which occurs,  It is just that normally the next wire(s) would be found and the contact(s) inserted.  Don't know if it makes any difference but I am using the IEC menu.  Thanks.

Hi

I have just tried that, but unfortunately it has not made any difference.  Please see my reply to Thomas.  Thanks for helping.

Did you check both project AND drawing properties?

I tried with those and seem to work on mine.  I was thinking maybe you had something wrong with the wire connections attributes or something along those lines. I also don't have the VMS21P in any of my libraries so I must not have installed that one since we don't use, but if I use any other child it seems to work.  Can you attach your drawing so I can add to my library to test?

Hi again.

I noticed that with the IEC sample drawings there was no problem, so I thought it must be a problem with the project settings.  I compared them and found that the drawing format scale was set to inches on mine but mm full size on the sample.  I changed mine to mm full size but it didn't make any difference.  I then saw your response saying to check drawing and project settings.  The drawing one was set to inches on mine, but mm full size on the sample.  Changed my drawing setting to mm full size and it now works correctly.  Thank you so much for your help, it is much appreciated.

Best regards.

Hi Thomas.

Thank you very much for your assistance.  The problem was due to project and drawing properties.  Please see my reply to rhesusminus.  Thanks again.

Best regards
