My ladder is on sheet 5 of my drawing but I want it to think it is sheet 1

Hi, I have a project that will have about 10 pages in it. 

The first 5 will have mechanical layouts of some sort, then the schematics will begin on page 6.

My ladder diagrams are setup for %S%N so I imagine on page 6 even though it will be the first ladder the number will probably start at 600 for example.

Can I finagle the drawing to see the 6th sheet as the 1st sheet of the schematic?

Or will I just have to use different numbering means?

Avoid using the Sheet and Number ladder style. You have run into one of the reasons I advise against it in training and when I assist customers on site with setting up the software for optimum use.  Using the Numbers Only option gives total freedom to line reference numbering and also avoids the issue you will have with PLC tags. 

By default, PLCs are tagged as PLC%N and this tagging format is set in the PLC database, not drawing properties.  I have a utility that can edit the PLC database and change all to PLC%S%N but it isn't even necessary if you use the Numbers Only option for assigning line references.  So if you want the first rung of the first ladder to begin on sheet 6 but be numbered 100, you simply type 100 as the first line reference when you insert the ladder.

For metalwork, I assign a different drawing number with separate sheets within that number.

Same for different schematics.

Generally, I have the following arrangement for our projects.

Dwg 01 - GA and other project related dwgs like SLD's & Comms with however many sheets are needed.

Dwg 02 - Panel 1 AC & DC split onto separate sheets.

Dwg 03 to ?? - More panels in the board.

Dwg ??+1 - Metalwork dwgs which we don't normally send to the client.

Each dwg number can have multiple sheets tied to the number so if say panel 14 out of 16 requires an extra sheet, it doesn't require renumbering all the other dwgs and sheets.

Our files are named using the following format which is also used as the number on the sheet.

PPPPPP-DD-SS where PPPPPP is the Project Number, DD is the Drawing Number and SS is the Sheet Number.

This means that the schematics for each panel start at sheet 01 for that set of sheets.

With us, that means the 11kV or 33kV AC diagram first with the control starting after that.

For your situation you would place the Metalwork dwgs first and then have the schematics with a different dwg number starting with sheet 01.

Hi, you cant apply this method with the title block update tool can you?

If the title block is set up to take the sheet number and dwg number from the dwg properties then the Title Block update can set these automatically.

In the Title Block Setup when you are choosing the various attributes and linking them to the various lines, there should be a button down near the bottom right to take you to another page which has all the links to the DWG Properties. From here, you can add the three dwg description lines and other useful bits of data to the title block attributes.

I use

SHM for Sheet Max

SH for the Sheet Number

DN for the Dwg Number

TB3 for the first Description line

TB4 for the second Description line

TB5 for the third Description line

The rest of my attributes are set at the Project level.

When you are doing the Title Block Update, it's just a matter of selecting the correct attributes to update from the bottom section as well as the top section. The Update will then pull the correct data from the DWG settings and insert them into the attributes as well as doing the same for the project settings.

For the Sheet Max value, You can set that for individual runs...

Say for example, you have 1 Project, 12 dwgs in the project with 9 dwgs having 2 sheets, one having 5 sheets and the other two having 4 sheets.

On the first run through of theupdate, you would select EVERYTHING that needs to be updated. Before you run click the OK, you can change the number of the max sheets to a different value. In this case I would set it to 2 and then click OK to run the update. Select the option to do the update Project wide and select ALL the sheets then let it run.

Then you run the update again but only select the sheet max option and change the value to 4. Again select the Project wide but only select the sheets that are in the two dwg numbers that have 4 sheets.

Repeat for the final dwg set but enter five as the sheet max value and of course only select those sheets that are in the one dwg with 5 sheets.

The end result is that the 9 dwgs with 2 sheets show a sheet max of 2, the two with 4 sheets show a sheet max of 4 and the last dwg shows a sheet max of 5.

The attached is our general title block which also has the WD_TB attribute which holds the Title Block Setup information. NOTE that there are normally twenty fields which are connected to some of the attributes. 16 of the attributes mirror the column attributes at the top of the title block.

There are two fields that mirror the SH attribute. On is located in the 'Sheet of Sheets' box. The second field linked to the SH attribute is located on the bottom left along with the last two attributes which mirror the PN and DN attributes.

If you notice, there is a field in the CAD FILE No. box which gives the actual file name. This field automatically changes according to how you have the option set in the plain ACAD options.
