ITEM WITH MULTIPLE BALLOONS

Anonymous
Not applicable

When I insert a footprint and then balloon it, it shows multiple balloons. I realize the schematic component has several multiple catalog numbers in it.

Is there a way to only put in the balloon for the component and not a balloon for every part in that component?

i have been exploding the balloon and deleting the multiple catalog balloons but there has to be a better way than that to do this.

Thanks for any insight you can provide!!!

Command entry:  AEPROJECT
In the Project Manager, right-click the project name, and select Properties. Select the Components tab and click Item Numbering.

Under Item Assignments select

Per-Component Basis - allow item number assignment to the main catalog part number only

metal_pro2 thanks for your reply.
The project was set to Pre-Part Number Basis. I changed to Per-Component Basis. I applied the Project Defaults to the project and then to the drawing itself.
It still adds multiple balloons to the layout page.

Any other thoughts?

Hi @Anonymous,

Would you be able to share a project file so I can try and reproduce this behavior? It would also help to see a Screencast so I can follow the same steps you're taking.

Attached are 3 files as it will only allow me to add 3 files to this post.

The disconnect on page 100 seems to be the issue with multiple catalog parts.

800 page is the layout.

Thanks

Dennis

After setting to Per-Component Basis, maybe try and resequence item numbers project wide with "AERESEQUENCE" command. then reinsert balloons

I have already tried that with no luck.

In the sample drawings you posted if you look at one of your components with multiple catalog line items I see they have multiple item numbers. You need to blank these out

Try exporting everything (all drawings) in the project to spreadsheet, then delete all item numbers in the excel sheet and import changes back into project. Now resequence item numbers. If you look at an item it should now only have an item number for main component only. Now add balloons.

Well that's the catch.

When we start each project, we do that. We export to a spreadsheet and delete all the item numbers and resequence the whole project BUT after that we cannot resequence blank items other than when the initial resequencing is done. (that's a whole other thread on here).

The other issue is we have dedicated item numbers for a few items and also have suffixes for items we do not want purchasing to order but need to show on the BOM, hence the A B C after some of the items. These item numbers are put into the project from the component and the text fields on the catalog numbers.

We assign items as follows:

1-199 to electrical components

200-299 to pneumatic components

300-399 to fitting for the electrical enclosure.

So a project wide resequence does not work for us after the initial assignment of the item numbers.

I know this should not be this hard to do what we need to do but it seems like the software is unable to do what we need for some reason.

thanks

Dennis

This is direct from the 2019 Help and applies to the 2017 release on...

Item Numbering Setup Dialog Box

Define the item numbering settings for the project.

 Find
 Command entry:  AEPROJECT

In the Project Manager, right-click the project name, and select Properties. Select the Components tab and click Item Numbering.

Per-Component Basis
The item number applies to the main catalog part number and any multiple catalog values. Separate item numbers cannot be assigned to each multiple catalog value.
Per-Part Number Basis
Separate item numbers can be assigned to the main catalog part number and each multiple catalog part number.
Note: Item numbers cannot be assigned to part numbers based on ASSYCODE combinations.
Note: This version of the dialog box is used when the AEITEMRESEQUENCEMODE system variable is set to the default value of 1.

Now you want the main component to have an item number and the sub components to not have an item number, correct?
According to the help, if you set the main component and sub component up using the ASSEMBY CODES, the sub components will not be assigned item numbers. However if you use the Multiple Catalogue system, the sub components DO get assigned an item number.

No I am looking to have separate item numbers for each item whether it is the main or a multiple catalog numbers. What i don't want is multiple balloons showing up on 1 component in the layout.

I do not assign item numbers based on an assycode. i have MFG01 cat01 in my symbol and then have the needed information in my catalog lookup MFG01=AB; CAT01=1492-J4Q. That's what how I put the multiple catalog numbers into the component. I have some symbols that have 12 multiple catalog number put in that way. That part works fine.

AEITEMRESEQUENCEMODE = 0 for me as i cannot resequence my whole project.

see attached DWG and notice the handle on the layout has 2 balloons. Other items have the same issue they have already been edited out.

Thanks
