How to permanently change layers blocks and PLC IO modules draw on.

Hello everyone.

I have all my layers set up according to my company's drawing standards. Now I need to find a way to make all the NFPA schematic symbols and the PLC IO Module insert tool to conform to these layers. For example the TERMS, TAGS, PSYMS, DESC, and WIRING layers all now need to insert/create onto layer E-TEXT only. And all the circles, squares, rectangles, squiggles. etc. that make up those schematics all insert/create onto the E-EQUIP layer only. My biggest desire is to make the PLC Parametric Selection stuff all conform to these layer standards. That way I can create new IO modules at will without having to copy and paste from previous projects that may be drawn to an undesirable spacing for project XYZ. My ultimate goal is to convert the entirety of the ACE parts library, circuit builders & panels (literally everything) to always draw to E-EQUIP / E-TEXT, abolish the TERMS, TAGS, DESC layers and then deploy this beast of modifications to the electrical team.

Running ACE 2020, Windows 10

Any suggestions?

in your project properties, you can tell Electrical where to assign the layers here.

hope this helps

In addition.. The WD_M and WD_PNL blocks that gets inserted to your drawings, are the blocks that import those default layers into your drawing.
Make sure you create a version of these files as well, that only contain the layers you want.

If you make both the TAG layer and the TAGFIXED layer be the same, I think you won't be able to used fixed tags. As I understand it, ACADE sorts those out by layer name. I'm pretty sure that any automatic retag you did would overwrite anything you marked as 'fixed', without a layer for fixed tags to reside on. That would probably go for components and wire numbers alike.

I'm not 100% sure on that but it's something I'd definitely be on the lookout for. We have to fix a lot of tags here when referencing other drawings, or pieces of equipment that are outside of our own. If I did something to break that it would have a large adverse impact here. FYI, in case you face similar situations.

You can actually.
When you fix a tag, you change the attribute tag from TAG1 to TAG1F 🙂
The layer is mostly for "color".
