Drawing template and Border alphanumeric number references

Hello,

I am trying to make our own custom template for some electrical drawings. I have read and think I have a good understanding of the information provide by Autodesk and D.McAlexander's EcadConsultant. However, both of these references in one line state "Start a blank new drawing and draw your border using standard AutoCAD commands and objects." or "Develop the basic border drawing for your company" and then continue to discuss linking the attributes found in the title block. What I am wanting to know is how to setup the alphanumeric references around the outside of the border. These are used to reference every component in ACADE so I assume that there would be some way to declare them during the creation of a drawing template.

Am I missing something?

Thanks

Colin

Hi.

Normally, I implement these references into the drawing frame (in the template). So, just draw the references and add the texts as needed, like this:

Just make sure that the width of the cells are equal along it's axis. The vertical and horizontal spacing can be different.

Go into drawing properties, and have a look at the Drawing Format tab.

When you're done setting these values, remember to update the PROJECTS properties with the same values, so that they don't get overwritten when adding a drawing, and answer yes to apply project defaults.

If you don't want to implement the references into your drawing template, AcadE has a tool to insert them into the drawing. For some strange reason it's placed in the Insert Wire / Wire Numbers panel:

From here, you can insert the reference labels into the drawing:

I hope this clarifies a little more for you.

Hi there,

I like the x-y coord system as Trond has setup.  I like it for doing over view of machine foot print for device location and for doing panel layouts.  The attached is a sample of how I like to do schematic title blocks.  All of the attributes in the title block can be batch updated with Project Wide update.  Another thing in the title block I added is a invisible attribute Copied From so when one job is copied to another I can leave a trail of bread crumbs back to the original project.  The mechanical title block I use looks like Trond's, and I have embedded the same attributes as the schematic so even though the look different the will both update at the same time.

Good luck

Please mark as a solution if this works for you, kudos are always welcome
