Drawing numbers

Hi there,

I am looking to set-up a drawing package that will automatically re-sequence the drawing numbers sequentially if a drawing in between is not required. Can someone please advise if and how this can be done.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Arlene

Do you currently own AutoCAD Electrical?

If so you can re-sequence your drawing numbers using the Title Block update command:

Hope this answers your question.

If you mean DRAWING number, and not SHEET number, there's no automation available for that.
I'd export drawing properties to excel, modify the drawing numbers there, and then import it back into the project.

For those looking for the answer to this. seclet Import/Export Data on the Toolbar on top. Select To Spreadsheet. Select Drawing Settings from the list and do the entire project. Select the drawings to process and an excel spreadsheet will generate. Open the excel spreadsheet and modify the SHDWGNAM column. Save and close.

When your back in Autocad from the Import/Export Data Tab select From Spreadsheet. Select Project then hit ok. This will do what Rhesusminus is looking for.

When I import the excel file back into the project, the drawing numbers still are the same even after changing them in the SHDWGNAM column. Is this because i used a .wdt file for my title block? I would really love to use this method to change drawing sheet number. The only other way that may or may not be possible is to have two sheet numbers that change with %S. Is that even possible?

When importing back from Excel, AcadE will only change the variables inside the "settings" of the drawing. You'll need to run the Title Block Update to push those values into the title blocks.

Makes sense.

Currently, using our title block I can change the Drawing Number of every sheet, but only to the same drawing number. I think this is because of the .wdp file. But when I import back from excel and run the title block update, I only have the old option to change every sheet to the same drawing number.

The drawing number above is constant despite the excel file import, even doing the title block update anyways still only gives the same number

Checking the "Drawing (%D)" checkbox should update the value in the title block is it is mapped to an attribute in the title block.

Thank you! that %D works, all I had to do was map the drawing number attribute to the %D

thanks again
