I've been using Autocad Electrical for several years to create point to point diagrams between electrical devices, but I am trying to expand my knowledge and ability with the software. The drawings I have created in the past were very time consuming as everything was created by inserting new connectors and defining every pin and pin description for my installed devices and their associated connectors. I've spent hours trying to learn how to save my device and connector data into Autocad for future use, but I haven't been able to figure it out. In short, below is what I am trying to accomplish:
For example,
I need a point to point schematic for an interconnect between two screens. The screens can be Device 1 and Device 2. Device 1 and Device 2 each have two DSUB connectors, P1 and P2. P1 and P2 are both 78 pin connectors. I have a connector pinout and pin function list for the devices/connectors that I want to use to build up a database so I can quickly insert them into future drawings. The interconnects are different for every installation and every drawing so I can't use blocks. I can do all of the interconnecting manually with minimal work, but adding my connectors and pins and pin descriptions every time I need a drawing is so time consuming. I assume there is a way for me to add my device/connectors to the catalog browser or something so I can simply select my device, select my connector, and select which pins I need to create a point to point schematic.
Again, the biggest thing is being able to just select what I need for that particular drawing. The connectors, pins, and pin functions for my devices will never change, but I need different things for each project.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!
