Default Component Tag

When inserting a new component the component tag is set to a default. ("Q1" for iec breaker) is there a way to change the default? ("MCB" for iec breakers)

Either Copy the symbol to a new name and change the Family and TAG1attributes to say "MCB" or just edit the existing symbol the same way. If you want just that instance to be changed or any copy of the instance, in the "Insert / Edit Component" dialog, select "Options" (the Options: Tag Format "Family" Override dialog comes up), follow directions.
Note: Always use the Electrical's "Copy Component" instead of the base AutoCAD's copy command when copying Electrical components. This way, all behind the scenes "stuff" happens correctly. Hope this helps!

Making a new symbol would do it but I didn't want to because there are several different components that I would like to use a different family description with.
Family override doesn't cause the next component to have the sequentially next tag number (MCB1 then MCB2 etc.)
Is there a way of changing the library instead of making new components?

It does tag seq if the override has the MCB, then %N, MCB%N.
This causes the tagging to increment the number if the devices all have the override. For the different components you want to change, just open them up, edit the Family Attributes to be whatever you want, then all instances of the inserts will be incremented. Now, if you are asking to use the same symbol but for many different applications, do the Family override and use the Electrical Copy Component to copy the same types around then retag. They will increment.
Did I understand correctly what you are trying to do?

Yes that gets them to increment. Thanks
But it only works for copied components. If I insert a new one from the insert command it uses the old description.
What I would like to do is several types of components. (breakers, Contactors, Etc.)

then you need to find the "component" or "footprint" drawings that you want to use, and set each one up with that same designation. Also make sure that you "purge" your old blocks out of the drawing occasionally, because ACE will use what has already been placed in the drawing if you do not. Hope this helps.

Where do I find the designation for components.

Read the above post from CAWaugh, I was merely pointing out that you have to do this for EACH component drawing that you insert. If you double-click on an inserted component, it should give you the "Block" or drawing name. You then need to find that drawing, and edit the attributes mentioned in CAWaugh's post and if you want them to increment, use the %N behind the designation, such as CB%N or TB%N. Hope this helps....

Create a text file with Notepad called Wd_fam.dat in your project folder or your User folder. For the first line type Q1,MCB. This tells ACE to retag components with Q1 as the default tag to MCB. You can continue line by line for others, perhaps you want F to become FU for fuses. You would enter F,FU on a line. Be aware that at this time, any Wd_fam.dat will be executed on all projects. So if this is a one time thing, rename the Wd_fam.dat to a meaningful backup name after the project is complete. This will keep it from acting on other projects when not desired.

Did you try placing it in your active project's project folder? That's worked for me.

It is working,But for some reason it still adds certain characters to the name. Not so if I want to change S to kkp. The end result is -kkpC-4 where does that C-4 come from. It feels like adding component location to the name. I want for example -kkp1,-kkp2, ...

I created video how do it

Set your numbering to Sequential, not line reference:
