They can be added from your install media.

Here's how

Exit Autocad Electrical.

Find and make a backup copy of Default_Cat.mdb

Bring up your control panel and select Programs & Features.

Select your ACADE program.

Click Uninstall/Change

Once the installer comes up, choose 'Add or Remove Features'

First screen is the manufacturers. Choose which ones you wish to add.

Click on Next.

Make any changes required to your installed symbol libraries and click next again.

I would not make any changes on the features unless you know exactly what you need to change.

Click update to make the changes you set up.

If all goes well, when the Installer is finished, you will have those missing manufacturers in your catalog database.

Check and make sure they are there and that it all works as it should.

If so, again, make a backup copy of the Default_Cat.mdb.

If you have any problems, let us know.

Regards Brad

Thanks,

That seemed to work ok but it didn't fix my original problem as I thought it might.

I watched the Tiffany Tucker Learning Objectives 1, and downloaded the handout. I am working through the exercise on basics of AutoCAD electrical, putting a relay coil into a rung and then using the look up, put in an AB part number, the catalouge search tells me there is nothing for that manufacturer. I then scroll down the list and there is no mention of any AB component which is why I thought I had missed it out on the download.

Do you have any ideas on that or should I post another message?

Regards and thanks,

Chris.

Are you using ACADE 2015? If so, I had the same problem. I added new manufacturer content via Add/Remove Programs, but the changes didn't take for whatever reason. Repairing my installation didn't work. I ended up having to uninstall/reinstall, and upon reinstall, I selected almost every manufacturer so that I wouldn't have to deal with the problem again.

It could be that you used the wrong search...

Did you use the 'Catalog - Search database' box up the top or did you use the box under the catalog?

Was there anything in the box under Manufacturer?

Were you in the correct Table for the component?

Parts Search.JPG

If you are looking for a particular brand of component, make sure that it is in the manufacturer filter. The screenshot shows a filter for 'KRAUS AND NAIMER' branded switches as they are the ones I use the most.

Also, you need to be in the correct table to find the component. For example, if you are looking for a relay in the pushbutton table, it won't show up when you do a search. The Search is mislabled as the current version only searches the selected table and not the entire database.

In the filter boxes, you can type partial names, numbers and so on and anything that displays will have the required filter applied.

For example, in the screen shot above, if I was to put CA10 A7 in the catalog filter, the display would only show those entries that begin with CA10 A7 in the catalog number and also had 'KRAUS AND NAIMER' as the maufacturer.

There is also the handy button to totally clear the filters which may cause your missing AB parts to suddenly show up.

Also, you have drop down menus that list every entry in the particular column. Try opening the Manufacturer drop down and see if AB is present.

Hello,

No I am using a trial version of ACADE 2016.

Using the insert components, I put a relay coil symbol in a line.

This then brought up Insert/Edit components,

I entered a description using the defaults

In the catalouge data box I selected lookup

That gave me the catalouge browser

In the search bar above the results box I entered 700-P2* & pressed the search icon, which should bring up a list of AB relays

but I got "No catalouge records matching the search string were found".

I tried putting in a Telemechanique contactor coil and that worked out well so I guess my Allen-Bradley parts did not download. I would try uninstalling and downloading again, but as its a trial version I am not sure if the site would allow that.

It may be better just to give up on this exercise and try to use the principles shown in the exercise to create my own drawing.

Regards,

Chris.

You should still have the downloaded files on your system.

It's just a matter of looking at where you saved them when you did the download.

If you were able to get the installer running and it found the appropriate files when you tried to add the missing database info, they are there.

As a quick check, can you do a search for default_cat.mdb and let us know how many entries show up?

Did  you make a backup of the original as mentioned in my first post and if so, how large is it and how large are any other entries that show in the search.

If you have Microsoft Access installed, can you open the default_cat.mdb file and look at the CR table. Check and see if any AB entries are in the table.

When I do a search for default_cat.mdb, I have 4 files on the system, two that are dated 19/11/13 one of these is on the C drive and one on the D and they are 2.57 MB, another one is on the C drive dated 22/06/15 and is 229Mb the other is on the D drive dated 23/06/15 and is also 229MB.

The last two would be around when I updated as your earlier suggestion.

I don't have an MS data base program on this computer only a Libre Office one which I have not tried to use yet.

I have been trying various things with this program and have come across AB products in other icon groups so I think the information is probably there but I don't seem to be able to access it.

I did have problems when I downloaded the program, it stopped several times and I had to start the download again so I wonder if it would be better to uninstall and download again.

I also have other issues, I seem to be unable to get it to use IEC symbols even though I ticked this option on the download prompt.

Regards,

Chris.

I don't have any real input regarding your install, but as for the IEC...

Clicking that box just tells ACADE to include those items during the install. Regardless of what you tell it then, ACADE defaults to the old JIC standard the first time it starts up. You have to tell it to use a different one. This is done via project properties. Right click on your project and select "Properties". It's in the first tab, "Project Settings". Here you define the paths ACADE will look to find the proper menu files. Set it up to use the IEC stuff rather than the JIC.

Hope this helps,

Jim

OK...

It sounds like the project is still looking at the original default_cat.

Try going to the Project Properties and pointing the program to one of the latest catalog versions.

Under the Catalog Lookup File Prefence, click 'Other File...' and navigate to one of the to files that are 229Mb.

(Circled in Blue)

This will tell the project to use that version of the default_cat.mdb.

If it works, you can just overwrite the originals with the larger versions.

Library Settings.JPG

As for the IEC menu and blocks not being used, you will need to set the project to look at the appropriate menu and library folder.

Under the Library & Icon Menu sections in the project properties, you need to expand the Schematic Libries and Schematic Icone Menu File tree's.

(Circled in Red)

Click on the entry that points to the current library and then click on browse to the right. Select one of the IEC directories and click OK.

Do the same with the Icon Menu and select the IEC one there.

Once you save those settings in the project, you should get the IEC menu and blocks when you go to insert a component ..

NOTE - Once you get this project set up to your liking, use it as the basis for all your projects, otherwise you will have to do it again.

As for the download, if it was faulty, you would, more than likely, not have been able to unpack it or install it. Most downloads these days allow for pausing and resuming the download.

Hi,

I followed the steps for the set up of the Project Settings>Catalog Lookup File Preference, and it worked to get the list of components and brands...

BUT, when inserting the terminal strip I just get the simple/default terminals. So I get all the time the simple ones and not the branded ones.

Could anybody help me?

(In attachment. On the left the ones I get. On the right one of the ones I would like to get when inserting...)

Thanks!
