Hi dear experts ,

recently i added a part number(catalog number) to CB(circuit breaker) family with these data:

Catalog :OL1 ,  manufacture:RAAD(local brand) and assigned it to a circuit breaker Symbol and everything was fine (attachment #1)  but after changing & editing this  to : Catalog:OL2 , manufacture :RAAD  , i couldn't update Symbol catalog data and i should do it manually !!! (attachment #2) .

it's just 1 symbol and i can edit symbol catalog data manually but in my project i have for example 100 symbol and sometimes i should edit catalog i have made .

is there anyway to update automatically?

i worked with Eplan p8 before and i could update all symbols after editing part numbers, i don't know some details in Autocad electrical . i hope you can help guys .

thank you

Hi there,

The Catalog Data will be successfully edited as i can see you have done, however, the text loaded into the Dialog box is "Dumb Text" that is not linked back to the Catalog, you would need to manually "Lookup" and re-add the Data to the component, Unfortunatly.

Below you will see i too edit the Catalog Data

This has overwritten the Existing line item in the Catalog

However the "Dumb Text" is un affected.

Note: The Component is NOT flagged as "Missing Catalog Data" when a report is run.

This applies to:

  • Reports
  • Missing Catalog Data
  • Electrical Audit
  • DWG Audit

This would make for a good idea on the AutoCAd Electrical Ideas Board

Hi dear Chris Quirke,

thank you for answering , after i wrote this post i found a little solution and i want know your opinion ,

first of all i tell you what was my problem : "Dumb text " you mentioned doesn't change and its too bad , cause i have so many component & cant change one by one manually (or using copy catalog data) without making mistakes !! and it's annoying when i want to get a Bill of material report and it will be worst when i want use Panel Footprint i assigned that catalog number to it before!!

but i found a tricky method to help me (maybe) and want to know your opinion :  as you know in Project Tab there is an option named "update component from catalog database"and it gives us 4 option : 1)textvalue 2)terminal prop 3)pin lisr 4)weblink and i noticed there is NO option for updating that dumb texts !! SO i changed my text value!!!

Look : in first catalog put value "CAT=OL1" in "textvalue" and then i changed it to "CAT=OL2"and i noticed CAT attribute of symbol has changed  , and after getting report i noticed my Category Column in BOM report has changed to new one !! this solved my problem .

BUT that dumb text inside symbol (with name "category " )is previous  one (OL1)

can you say your opinion?
