Catalog Browser - 2018

I recently installed and started using Autocad Electrical 2018 on a Window 7 laptop.  When I added a fuse to a schematic and did a catalog browse I found no entries for Littlefuse or Bussmann.

I went back to the install those manufactures and I received an error saying their zip could not be opened.  I browsed to the directory where autocad was trying to get the zip files from C:\Autodesk\WI\Autodesk AutoCAD Electrical 2018\x64\AcadeContent\Root\Acade\Manufacturer and did not find the littlefuse or bussmann zip files.

I also found an update for Eaton components in a forum search but it did not allow me add the catalog information.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Hi jack.colletta,

To install manufacturers after installation you can follow these steps.

  1. Close all instances of AutoCAD Electrical.
  2. From the Windows Control Panel select Uninstall a Program.
  3. From the Uninstall or Change a Program dialog box, select the latest version of AutoCAD Electrical and click the Uninstall/Change button.
  4. On the AutoCAD Electrical Installation Wizard, click Add or Remove Features.
  5. On the Manufacturer Content Selection page, select all the manufacturers you wish to install. Click Next.
  6. On the Select Symbol Libraries page, click Next.
  7. Click Update.

These steps were copied from the Help topic at http://help.autodesk.com/view/ACAD_E/2018/ENU/?guid=GUID-A5D669E0-01E0-4965-860B-6AC4F0D25023

Hope this helps,

Pat

I did that, but the install threw an error not finding the zip file to install from.  It appears the Littlefuse and Bussman zip files are not in the install from the web site.

I contacted tech support and i had someone send me some files to fix it.

Thanks for the help

Jack

Jack, glad you got it fixed. It might be that the network deployment didn't have those manufacturer's installed and if they had it might have worked. Or maybe if you install from a network deployment that method in the Help does not work. I will see if there is a method and try and get it added to Help. Anyway, some research for me at my end.

Does anyone have a way of doing this with ACE 2018 on Win10?

I'm a total noob to autocad, but I'm usually good with new packages. This one has me stumped.

Thanks.

I apologize, for some reason I wasn't receiving email notifications regarding this post. I will ask someone from the AutoCAD Electrical team to provide the information on how to add manufacturers after an install from a network deployment.

If you used a standalone installation, follow the instructions in the Help topic, To Install Additional Manufacturer Content to the Catalog Database at

http://help.autodesk.com/view/ACAD_E/2018/ENU/?guid=GUID-A5D669E0-01E0-4965-860B-6AC4F0D25023

Pat;

I'm running Windows 10, and the uninstall doesn't give the option to repair or modify.
I did manage to download the EATON catalog content and add that, so it appears that things are working.

Aside from the EATON information that I just added, the only things that show up are AB and ABB. Is that the whole default catalog?

Thanks for your help!

Keith,

There are lots of manufacturers available. Only a few are pre-selected in the default installation. During installation you can check which ones you want to install but to see these options you have to expand the initial dialog. For each manufacturer you get the catalog information, some panel footprint symbols, and some information in the PLC database.

So your problem is a little different than what was originally in the thread about a network deployment, You have a standalone install but due to the Windows differences the Help topic about adding manufacturers later isn't accurate. I will log this as an issue that should be updated in the Help.

I don't have Windows 10 but I can set up a machine with Windows 10 to try this. It will take a little bit of time so it might be tomorrow before I can get back to you with an answer.

Regards,

Pat

I used the following steps to add manufacturers in after installing AutoCAD Electrical on a Windows 10 PC.

1. Close AutoCAD Electrical if it is open

2. In the lower left corner of the desktop, where it says Type Here to Search I typed Control Panel.

3. I clicked to launch Control Panel from the Best Match

4. I selected Uninstall a Program under Programs

5. I selected AutoCAD Electrical from the list of installed programs.

6. I clicked Uninstall\Change now available at the top of the dialog.

7. From the dialog I selected Add or Remove Features.

8. On the Manufacturer Content Selection I checked the boxes for the ones I wanted to add (or click Select All to add everything available).

9. Click Next, Next, Update

Let me know if these steps don't work for you.

Regards,

Pat

That did it!
Thanks!

Part of the problem is that I never use the big search box, so I removed
it from my taskbar.

Glad that did it. There is probably a better way to find Control Panel in Windows 10 but I haven't used Windows 10 much.

Just to address the network deployment issue in this thread - here is the information I got from the install engineer for AutoCAD Electrical

When ACE is installed from the deployment with shared catalog content, the users will see that the database that ACE is referring to is located in the shared location.

network_install1.png

The deployment can be modified as follows –

  1. Launch “Create & Modify a deployment” from Tools folder in the deployment
    network_install2.png
  2. Ensure that the Modify option is selected and proceed
    network_install3.png
  3. Select the additional manufacturers by expanding ACE product in the product selection dialog
    network_install4.png
  4. Complete the modification
  5. Users can now launch ACE and will be able to see the additional manufacturers in Catalog Browser

Regards,

Pat
