Can't change ENV file in Settings

Hi All,

I recently created custom libraries, icon menus and an ENV file for a customer off-site. I want to use this new ENV, libraries and menus at my company.

A brief run-down of what I did:

1. I copied the custom AeDATA folder over to our network server.

2. I copied the customer.ENV file and renamed the copy "company.ENV".

3. I opened the new "company.ENV" file and changed all of the base paths that began with "Z:\AcadE" to "O:\SDS".

4. I updated the Support File Search paths as required.

The Project template I created in conjunction with this ENV file links up perfectly in the new network location.  All I did was change the base paths in the ENV as described above.  However, any project that was already in our current network location will not allow me to change the environment file.

When I click the Environment button to change the ENV file under Settings for these existing projects, the program doesn't open a folder path to browse  for a new ENV file.  I'm not quite sure what I'm missing.

Hi @Anonymous,

Well it looks like you are doing all the correct actions. This is what the help file says on this:

How to set up a project-specific environment.

You can create an alternate environment settings ENV file and assign it to the active project. Customer-specific ENV files can be created to store customer settings, paths, libraries, and menus. Whenever the project is selected, the settings in the referenced ENV file are restored automatically.

Copy the wd.env file and rename it to a {projectname}.env.
Open and edit this new file in an external text editor such as Notepad.
Note: There is no editing tool or wizard for this purpose within AutoCAD Electrical.
Change the path for the library symbols and other settings as required.
Save to the same folder as the wd.env file: C:\Users\{username}\Documents\Acade {version}\AeData\.
Note: All environment files, including the project-specific files, must be located in the same folder as the default wd.env file.
Right-click a project name, select Settings, and then click Environment File button to select the project-specific ENV file for use.

I assume you are naming the <projectname>.WDP and <projectname>.ENV the same, Electrical will then use that instead of WD.ENV.

Cheers

Jon

Does it seem like the dialog box is opening off screen?  In the Current Setting dialog box you say you press the Environment file button and nothing comes up, can you click on the close button to close the Current Settings dialog box or do you have to press escape twice to close that?  If you have to press escape twice to close, a trick Trond had posted a while back was to press Alt + Spacebar then M to move the current dialog box.  At that point you can press the left or right arrow then move with your mouse.  Not sure if that helps but has happened to someone here before and that trick helped us out.

Hi Jon,

I think the issue had something to do with the support paths.  The program was looking in the wrong directory for the AcadE executables path/support path.  I removed and re-added the support file paths and it's not acting up anymore.
