I feel your pain & frustration every day.

I bet folks like to say I flame but I don't. I provide my honest opinions &
I don't feel it helps me, or Autodesk keeping quite.

I also don't care what labels folks have for people who don't agree with
them.

I'd be happy to look a few things for you,
Joe.  I can't promise quick turn-around times, but I'd be happy to try
working you through a few things.

I won't try to convince you the program doesn't
suck.  That's a non-starter for me, and I won't address it.

I can sincerely tell you that I use it by choice
and am more efficient for it.  I crash it some, but I'm still (much)
further ahead using it.

If you're anywhere near Pittsburgh, I'll even come
to you with one condition:  If within 2 hours I convince you that I can
make this application work, you take me to Texas Roadhouse or similar for a
steak and a bear.  😉

neil, that comment surprises me coming from
you.

No FE's or data loss on your end? Please share you
success.

I'm sure training couldn't hurt me, but you know as
well as anyone I've been around the block with LDT so I don't think I'm being an
idiot with this application: I'm not using a Ball-peen hammer and a cold chisel
so what can I possibly be doing to make this software pitch a fit whenever I add
a FL or label??? Please tell me. These are very small and I mean small project
I've been testing here.

Oh I can't even start a grading project without a
crash and loss of data after 30 minutes or so. My comment was totally sarcastic
as the resellers seem to be the only ones who insist that everything is
hunky-dory. I guess if I were making a killing on support I'd be a staunch
promoter as well.

They are the ones who have 8 hours a day to experiment with the program &
multiple environments to play in.

Users don't have that luxury of time.

I had questions about sub assm's I don't use. I was told by someone to open
up & experiment with all of the subassemblies to learn about them. Lets see
now. About an hour per sub, about 120 or so, that's about 120 hours. I can
fit that in right between my deadlines, the phone calls & my lobotomy. 😮

The jobs are small here. I need to have a FG in an hour so I can get the
plan completed in a day.

We do speak to our reseller, we have had C3D implemented by professionals, I
have studied C3D for two years in AU, read Mastering did all the tutorials
twice & we do our best to follow best practices...

We all still crash here.

I have reports from Subscription Support. I typically get, "we can't
reproduce the error" or, "a bug has been logged".

I sent one file that kept reproducing the same errors & Sub Support told me
one our fonts was causing errors but I get no info on what font, how to
debug it or how to fix it. All I get is, "a defect has been filed" &
unanswered email.

I got an error today I have never seen before,
Non XREF-dependent record "501_400Gro|DASHED2" contains vertical bar.
Changed to "AUDIT_I_080624120236-0".
All xref's were removed from this file two days ago.

Let's all just hope in 2010 we don't get a single new feature and all of
Autodesk's efforts are put towards fixing it.

Civil 3D is still crashing regularly in 2009 😞

I am able to get some things done very quickly, but that doesn't have me overlooking the fact that this program is crashing, robbing me of time and data.

It is frustrating and just wrong.

I think it is funny that storm water management and grading are a huge aspect of civil engineering and grading is severly broken, hydraflow is not integrated into the program, the xml exchange between the two programs is severely limited and or broken, and pipe networks in civil 3-d make you want to pull your hair out and bring a sharp axe to your computer and give it a reprogramming it will never forget.

Some users have stated that they crash much less often in 09 if they don't
work with older drawings. They take their older files & insert them as
blocks into new files. Give it a shot if you haven't & post back Donnie.

I have not had the opportunity to work with 09 in production yet and if I
have to rebuild all of my files it is not worth it.

The silence from "those who know" is amazing in this post.

Joe has offered help to so many folks over the years without every expecting
anything in return. The silence IMO is therefore also rude. Even if Autodesk
is gonna spank you.

Something is also wrong if the stockholders are happy & the users are not.

Again just my honest thoughts.

I just saw your last post Joe. Funny how they call you without you calling
them. Again the silence is amazing.

Are these so called "Top Guns" truely in a silver lined enviroment where all
drawings are pristine and error free, and every FL plays well with others?

You've seen my drawing there really isn't much to it - a 40 minute grading
job and Ive been jerking around with it for more than 3 days! Now thats what
I call efficient.

Its not like I pulled in some 3rd- 4th party program to muck thing up - I'm
using the tools provided..

This event has stressed me out so much my body feels weak.

Like me, you have most likely landed yourself on the ignore list of most of

John,

I think "those who know" know a good rant when they see one, and that
nothing they can offer in this thread would be seen as positive. This
thread (and its ilk in general,) can't be addressed by any of the
partners as we'll be seen as pandering, and can't be addressed by the
Manchester folks as they'll tell you what they've already told you, and
that won't be enough.

C3D continues to have known issues. Some are more widespread than
others, and some are almost impossible to replicate. These two factors
more than any other contribute to how a problem is addressed. If you can
duplicate a problem on demand, then it's more likely to be solved, but
nebulous complaints about speed, or grading or other issues can't be
solved. The show stopper grading issue I ran into, I sent in a drawing,
steps to produce, and a video just in case they thought I was nuts. The
issue will be in the SP I'm told.

Just like we get frustrated when the reviewer just throws out vague
"design this better," type comments, so are the folks in the C3D team.
So, rant on good brother, rant on and feel better, just don't expect
much reply from the folks in MHT.

Joe -

Wow. I just read your post and the number of additional posts. There are a lot of comments to and fro.

I noticed your profile indicates 2008. Do you have the SP2? Which SP2 service pack do you have? (There have at least been three different ones - that I know of)

Your intial post - yes - I have sent a few of those CER reports. That is usually the second time I do something and crash.

I have had a number of defects identified and confirmed with support.

Am I getting stuff done - absolutely!

Do I get frustrated - yes! Do I learn from my mistakes - I try too!

If you need some help - I will be glad to look at your drawing.
