Akamai - do tell.
I requested more information from Autodesk. I also use the Desktop App, for now, because it is a really easy way to keep the complete product suite up to date.
I couldn't find the Desktop App license agreement on the web page that opened from the About button on the App.
Akamai provides Autodesk a service, which has long been under fire for being suspect, but make no mistake - Autodesk is responsible for attempting to (and in many cases succeeding at) pilfering your local/server/network resources by way of the services Akamai is contracted to provide them.
Autodesk is pilfering from it's users; Akamai just sells them the tools to do it, which means Autodesk doesn't actually have to pay for their own edge servers worldwide, because they've just tricked you into doing it for them.
Here's one of many references on the topic, this one from back in 2011: https://www.cadnauseam.com/2011/11/03/any-autodeskakamai-people-care-to-explain-this/
Here's a snippet (my opinions) provided to Autodesk on their use of Akamai, which they've not yet even responded to:

I also have a substantial issue with the negative opt-in that allows Akamai Netsession Interface to be installed.
I don't have the time to go through each-and-every-single instance of how, and why professional organizations should not intentionally, or knowingly expose themselves to security risks by allowing Akamai, but in short, it's malware.
Only recently has Autodesk even included a link in Desktop App to the terms and conditions, and buried deep into those, you have a paragraph about (and I paraphrase) how electing to install AutoCAD products grants permission to have Akamai installed, and... wait for it... that we consent to allowing Akamai to use our local computer resources (which really means each-and-every-single individual PC within every given enterprise network that uses Desktop App to install software, exponentially consuming each office's upload/download bandwidth).
No. I do not consent. I will not allow Akamai to consume my office's resources for Autodesk's free benefit.
You (Autodesk) will give me an option to NOT use Akamai. Period. This is not open for debate, this is my employer's resources that you're claiming entitlement to, it's not okay, and you didn't even have the decency to ask first, frankly.
There are plenty of gullible people out there, that will allow you to have your way with them, just for asking - just ask - and give the rest of us a means by which to use Desktop App without such, or it will continue to be a banned application in kind.
Not cool, Autodesk-er guys and gals... Not cool.
In fact, the way that the Terms and Conditions link disappears after being checked (preceding an install button click)... yeah, that's pretty shady.

Please take from this what you like; I would strongly encourage you to uninstall Akamai NetSession from all workstations, and block it at the firewall/security appliance, etc for CYA. Given the fact that Autodesk wants users to just click OK, it's bound to come back at some point, unless you ban Autodesk Desktop [Cr]App company-wide.
Even if you elect to continue because you don't see the harm, just know that this is costing your company money, consuming company-owned resources, or worse negatively impacting production in little bits here and there, even though you're not being compensated for allowing such.
Cheers
