POINT DESCRIPTION NOT SHOWING FULL POINT FILE RAW DESCRIPTION.

Maybe I am over looking something but I cannot get point descriptions to show the full point file raw description. I went to create points and match on description is set to false and disable description keys is set to true. I import the points yet the raw description is top8"pvc and the description shows top8 in Civil 3D.

Thanks, Matt

Make sure that the point group that your points are in are not overriding your default point style. When you select one of the point in the drawing, in the properties toolbar, under the Data Heading you should see an entry for Primary Point Group.

Also make sure that if the Group is not overriding the descriptor key, that the label style for the that point is set correctly.  I have had times where I thought it was set to Raw Description but it was really set to Full Description and vise versa.

So I definitely thought that and doubled checked and I don't see anything overriding the style. The point list even says TOP8 instead of TOP8"PVC as raw description. So it seams just on the import of the point file its thinks raw description is only TOP8 not TOP8"PVC

So its seems if I import the point file as a .CSV excel file it shows raw desc. as TOP8 and if I Import the point file as  .TXT file it shows the raw desc. as TOP8"PVC. Weird why would that happen?

If you are using Excel to edit / save your .csv file, what is the format of the cells in the description column?  Does it truncate the information in the cell at all?

Marty.

So format for the cells is General and it does not truncate the description.

Try changing the " to two apostrophies. It is probably seeing the quote marks as the end of the text string.

Another solution might be to put an apostrophe in front of the text in the cell, this tells Excel not to treat the following information as anything other than what is entered.

[edit] Probably the best solution is to open the .csv in Notepad or another simple txt editor and save as .txt file.
