Extracting data from an image

Hello, I am trying to extract data from an image inserted into my drawing. The image is a topo with countour lines. I am able to trace and add the points using 3d poly and the function create points by selecting the poly line then add elevation. Is there any way to automatically generate the data from the image?

Do you have Raster Design with your software? Raster Design should assist with converting raster data into vector. I imagine you would still need to add the elevations manually. If you create 2dpolylines then you would only need to add an elevation once per line.

Within Civil 3D, the way you are doing it is the best option you have.

If you purchase Raster Design, there are tools within that program that will assist you in the process. If it's something you do a lot, then Raster Design would probably be worthwhile to purchase. If this is something you do on a rare occassion, then probably not.

I guess the free tool Wintopo is worth a try, sir.
