linetype pattern appearance

I would like a way to change the pattern start point on linetypes.  Ex. I have a ----------G---------- line drawn and would like to shift the pattern along the line after it's been drawn. This would be similar to adjusting hatch patterns.  Does anyone have a routine that would allow such editing? It would be a nice feature.

The only way to come close to doing that would be to create a new linetype definition.  You cannot pick an origin point for a linetype like you can for a hatch pattern.

I was hoping someone had an application they knew of that created a new object type. This was a feature I saw in another CAD program years ago and I always thought it would be nice to have.
