If you want to schedule it, it would be best to use spaces as the holder of finishes.  If you want to have it display floor patterns, you can set up a space style.  Another way is to use the AECPolygon.  You can use slab styles but that would mean that you would need a separate slab in each space to display finishes correctly.

OK thank you, could you include a list of commands, or what i need to use in order to schedule each using the space tool? i found one in the properties, and well for the house plan, it just creates a large orange diagonal hatch over everything, so i would doubt it is what i need. Im using this software for an architecture class where we are making entire house plans. Thanks for the tips so far

I'm not in a position to replace your teacher or to serve as a replacement for the help files or for a user manual but the visual representation of spaces can be manipulated based on the space style, the material settings, the view direction, the display configuration, the display sets, and the display representations.  Generally you should be using the ribbon tools and palettes for the commands and right clicking on the objects to access the object and style overrides.
