Installing Object Enabler for Architecture 2008 on 64-bit XP

We followed the recommendations given in: http://discussion.autodesk.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5552957 to install Architecture 2008 on 64-bit Windows XP. This installed fine and Architecture 2008 works OK. However, we are unable to install the Object Enabler.

We have tried using both autocad_architecture_2008_oe.exe and autocad_architecture_2008_oe_x64.exe without success. The first installer will not run, because it grumbles about the o/s. After extracting the MSI file, the MSI installs OK, but the app (Architecture 2008) does not recognise that the OE has been installed. (Probably due to incorrect default paths/registry entries.)

The second installer (x64) will not run, as it grumbles that it cannot find an associated application installed.

Can anyone help, please?

Why are you trying to install the ACA object enablers in ACA? I thought
those were for plain AutoCAD users to install and "... bring AEC objects to
life...".

The user on this workstation wants to be able to import objects created in 3DS Max 9 into Architecture 2008. A message comes up requesting the installation of an object enabler when an import is attempted. The user said that on his previous (32 bit os) workstation he followed the link displayed in the message box and that the installation of the object enabler fixed the problem.

Unfortunately the fact is ACA2008 is not supported or provided for 64bit OS,
so no extras/add-ons are designed to work in 64bit environments.

I can't open the help file at the OE page you seek to see exactly what it is
supposed to do, can you?

Ooops, sorry! The user has now clarified: he in fact has a problem with importing objects created in Architecture 2008 into 3DS Max 9. Which is the correct enabler to use?

Visit Max9's web pages and see if there is an ACA2008 enabler or patch for
it.

The only link in the Utilities & Drivers page for 3DS Max 9 is "Advanced Configuration Guide for Autodesk Data Management Server 2008". No mention of anything else.

Do you or anyone else know whether this exists somewhere else?

To quote the website:

"...Plus, enhanced DWGT file-linking and data support strengthen
interoperability with applications such as AutoCAD® 2008, AutoCAD®
Architecture 2008, and Revit® Architecture 2008 software products..."

There is nothing to download or install.

Have your user post his exact problem here, sounds like he might need an
upgrade:

We have subscription on our Autodesk products, so very recently we received 3DS Max 2008 media (+licenses). The only reason I installed 3DS Max 9 on this workstation was so that it was at the same revision as all the other workstations. Do you think the problem would be eliminated if we upgraded 3DS from 9 to 2008? Or is the issue related to the fact the Architecture 2008 is on a 64-bit platform? I would have thought that the platform is irrelevant as it is the object (i.e. data only) that 3DS is trying to import...

Thanks for the link to the other tech forum - I wasn't aware of it.

from what I'm reading on the website, you need 3ds-2008, nothing else.

Thanks. I'll update this thread when we've had a chance to upgrade. Although it is disappointing that with the release of Architecture 2008 there was no release of OE for the most recent previous release of 3DS Max - namely v9...
