xref mv block annotation problem

Hi all,

I have a big problem with mv blocks in Autocad Architecture 2021.

I always have to rotate my plans, I do it with layout, rotate and plot them.

Room Name, Room Number and Room size are my Mv BlocksMVBlockproblem.png

Mv blocks should, if I rotate my layout, alwas stay horizontal, they should not rotate with the layout.

I added a demo dwg,  there I have 2 dwg's

1. 0.dwg (hier is my demo floor plan) I added this with xref to mv-block.dwg

2. Mv-Block.dwg  (here chack the Test Layout

if you open mv-block.dwg you can see my problem.

I can't say that I've ever tried doing what you are doing but, I wouldn't expect internal objects in an xref to be able to rotate independently in each viewport.  If an annotation objects are rotated in the model space of their own drawing, they will maintain readable orientation.

Best practice, AFAIK, is to create constructs and elements without any annotation.  Elements can be moved anywhere, put on different levels, and rotated in different locations.  Constructs should be on a specific level and should be in a consistent orientation (not rotated and copied in view drawings).

Views are where tagging and annotation should be done.  The orientation of the view should be the same as it will be on the sheet.

hi

we always work with xrefs, it looks so,

main floor plan dwg is in folder Floor, with its own mv blocks, we are not allowed to make any changes in this dwg. We add this main dwg floor  plan  with xref to our own dwg new plan, like I have attached above,  so I search for a solution how to rotate my plans without rotating these mv block...

I could freeze mv blocks with layer und add new room names and numbers,  (I only need them both) but its lots of work.

Pardon me for asking but why rotate floor plans? What special discipline requires that the annotated floor plan is hands off?

The drawing you attached is an ACA drawing.  Even though you are not using the recommended workflow, you can benefit from ACA property sets.  Turn off or freeze the annotation layer in the xref source (in the target drawing). Set visretain to 1. Then tag the drawing using the same tags that were in the xref.  The tags will look right.  The is a one or two step process generally as it is possible to tag all space objects at the same time.  If you don't have the client's tags, create a new palette and drag their tags to your palettes. Then use that to tag your drawings.

Hi dbroad,

you wrote "Elements can be moved anywhere, put on different levels, and rotated in different locations. "

can you do this demo on attached dwg files above so I can check and see what you mean?

do you mean with "Elements" those mv blocks (room numbers and names) ? if yes how can I put them to different levels?

If I get time, I'll try to show you but in the meantime, you should look at the sample ACA projects. They use elements for core spaces and for furniture groupings. The concepts of construct and element, views (general, detail, and section), and sheets along with levels are related to using the project navigator, which semi-automates the process of xattaching, annotating, tagging, and cross-referencing.

Before I waste any time demonstrating elements, let me know if you're using the project navigator to manage your projects.  If not, you must find your own way.  I do recommend, as I've said before, that you not tag, dimension, or annotate drawings to be attached and rotated. Annotate in view drawings that you don't rotate when placing it on sheets. ACA can tag through xrefs and AEC dimensions can dimension AEC walls through xrefs.
