Where's the APJ file? ACA 2016's mysterious failure to find a Sample Project AP

I attach two pictures.  One image shows the Sample Project 2016 folder in a Windows 10 File Explorer detail view.  The second image shows the Project Browser's same view of that folder.  It seems to see the ds$ file but refuses to see the apj file.  Has anyone experienced that?  It's not a big deal. Just frustrating.

That is odd.  Any chance that the APJ file for the Sample Project 2016 is somehow damaged, and not being seen as a valid APJ file by AutoCAD Architecture?  I have a similar view to yours in Windows 10 File Explorer, but in the Project Browser, I do not have a folder icon for Sample Project 2016 in the My Projects folder which I can open/go into in the Project Browser.  Instead, with the My Projects folder current, I have a Sample Project 2016 APJ file which I can select, to set current.

The only Sample Project folders that do show in the Project Browser as folder icons are for versions I no longer have installed, and are likely leftovers from a beta install that were never fully cleaned up.  Those folder do not have the full complement of project files and subfolders in them, just a single RPQ file, which only shows in File Explorer, not Project Browser.2017-04-01_ACA2016_ProjectBrowser_SampleProject2016.png

Note:  The reason there are two "Sample Project 2017" files, one an APJ and one a folder, is that the folder is a remnant from the 2017 beta, and the APJ is in a Windows folder called Sample Project 2018.  I have not yet uninstalled the 2018 Beta, and they must not have bothered to update the sample project name for 2018 beta files.

Hi @dbroad,

Have you already checked the article Project does not display in Project Browser in AutoCAD Architecture or AutoCAD MEP?

Please let us know if that helps!

Thanks.  That didn't help though.  Neither solution worked.  Is there a source for download of the sample project 2016 to to replace these files or a reinstall option that works without messing everything else up?

Hi @dbroad,

I'm sorry to hear you're running into this issue. I've seen a few reports of projects displaying incorrectly in Project Browser, with the network folder icon instead of the Autodesk file-specific icons, and the APJ files missing from the list. Based on your screenshot, this looks like the same issue.

It does seem odd that it's only happening with the sample project. Is it stored in the default location? (It appears to be from your screenshot, but I'd like to be certain.)

Do you have drive compression enabled? Drive compression has been proven to cause this issue, and is therefore not supported.

One of the other causes for this issue is corruption in the project (typically of the APJ and/or DST files). I'll see if I can zip up the sample project for 2016 from my test machine and send it over to you, so that you can test it out (I'll send this in a PM shortly.)

I'm going to mark this solved since the zip file link you provided worked.  I don't know what happened.  If it happens again, I will try to figure it out.  Thanks for your help. BTW: The file was in the default location and the drive is not compressed.

Hi @dbroad,

That does seem strange that it suddenly started behaving this way in the default location without drive compression. I'm glad the copy of the project I provided works though.

Let me know if the issue crops up again, and I'll be happy to take a closer look.
