Trouble with matching Hatch properties

In some of my DWG's but not always, it is impossible for me to "match properties" of hatches.

For example, if I open a drawing that has an area with a hatch pattern on it already and I try to put a hatch in a new area, I am unable to match the existing hatch pattern. Within the hatch command window, when I click "match properties" and try to select the pattern I want to copy, nothing happens. I've also tried "matchprop" command to go the opposite way and still no result outisde of changing the color. This only occurs on certain DWGs and not others, but I don't know of any differences in settings on them.

I primarily am using this on 2-D elevations for brick and vinyl siding patterns.

I'm trying to get they grey pattern to match the cyan pattern on the left. I can get the color to change, but not the width between the lines.

Are these custom hatch patterns (as opposed to a User Single hatch, with a user set spacing between lines for each)?  If so, is the custom hatch pattern you want to use as the source for the Match Properties defined in a PAT file somewhere in your Support File Search Path?  The hatch definition needs to be available in order for it to be able to be copied to another pattern.

When using ACA, 2D section/elevation results are AEC object with nested blocks. Within those blocks are linework with the appearance of hatch patterns but are just lines. BTW ACA guidelines warn about applying hatching 2d secton/elevation results.  The way to control the look of these items with more automatic results is to use the material system and 2d section/elevation styles. Colors in 2D elevations may be generated by a system of lineweights within the elevation style related to distance subdivisions.
