I have drawn an outline of an existing building in Autocad. I would next like insert the site boundaries from somewhere ( Google Maps/earth ?) as an overlay(?) to add to the Site Plan drawing to show the boundaries on the drawing and to orientate the building on them. I am not sure how to go about that or what it is called ( is it Geo referencing? or Xreferencing?).
Is it possible to utilise Google maps or some other type of online maps ?( the only other maps i can find online so far are Council maps of the zone classification but they are PDF's) What are the maps typically used ?
What is the best approach to doing this ? I would like it to be reasonably accurate.
Do i need to trace the outline of the boundary over the top of the map? what's the usual way?
What are the possible ways/ workflow procedures for making this happen ? Is there a simple proceedure the pro's use?
Which layer does the site boundaries / map go into / model or paper space?
Is there an example or video somewhere ?
In practice would i need a professional surveyor to locate the position of the building or can i scale and orientate the drawing over the map layout- is it OK to use Google maps alone for presentation drawings? Is Google maps or similar sufficiently accurate? At what point in the design process would you need the services of a land surveyor?
Can the site plan similarly be imported into REVIT?
Thanks
