multileader from one file not changing ML on new file

I opened up a new file and modified my multileader style. I drew a leader (which drew fine) and then copied it to my clip board. then I opened up a file where I had a drawing which had the original default setting for multileader and pasted it to the file. The pasted leader came out fine visually and when I checked the properties. I then tried to draw a multileader but it came out with the default settings. it should have imported(?) the settings that I modified from the file I created it on. I have done this before hundreds of times on an older version of autocad (2002, 2009 I now have 2018) with no problems.  I also got it to work on several other computers in the classroom.  It worked on all but mine.  I don't expect it to change all my other Multileaders as soon as I past it, but it should at least change the settings of multileader like on all the other computers.  Less than a week ago I did the same with my dimension style.  I had to select "make current" which is normal.  I don't know what I did to make Multileader not do it on my computer.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Select both the pasted mleader and the 'wrong' mleader, then open PROPERTIES: is the same mleader style name and other setttings are similar or not?

Mleaders have nothing to do with DIMSTYLEs, you want to use MLEADERSTYLE to select different mleader styles.

Thank you for your help.  instead of modifying the default style on the new file I created a new style.  I selected that new style, drew a multileader then copied on to clipboard.  after that I opened up the file I needed it on and pasted and went to the manage multileader manager and set the copied new style as the current style.  the same I have to do with dimensions.  i'm just confused as to why it worked for all the computers except for mine.  and I've also done it the first way for 10 years.
