I need to create a style in the beam category to reflect wooden trusses e.g. 20" high, made out of 2x4s with a web.

Understanding that the two are different, there are good examples of flat webbed trusses is in aec-content\Styles\Imperial\bar joist styles.dwg.  The basis of the beam style would be similar, just replace shapes and the blocks with ones using wood shapes.  If you are making TJL style trusses then you would just replace the shape definitions for top, bottom, ans seat.

A plated truss would have a different end block.

How can I replace the shapes? There is no edit option. Also, at the end I have to add a vertical 2x4 instead of a seat.

Can you provide a snip or dwg sketch of the truss you are trying to make? There are multiple.

To answer the question: how do you replace the shape?

Select beam, See member shape panel.   Edit shape, copy shape style to wood top chord.

Now that you've made new shape style, insert shape. Now that you have the shape inserted, edit shape style and use the set from option found on the right.   You now have a shape style that you can replace

From the style manager you can edit your new style by changing the top chord to your new shape style.
