How are Layer Keys connected to objects?

On About Working With Layer Keys, you can read "When you create an object, the layer key that is associated with the object automatically places that object on the layer to which it is mapped"

For example the ANNOREVISIONCLOUDADD command belongs to the key ANNREV. I could figure it out the other way around, by looing up what layer it added it to and then found the Layer Key.

But what defines what object belongs to what key?

The layer key associated with each out-of-the-box add-object command is hard-coded into the program.  This Autodesk Knowledge Network article claims to document them:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-architecture/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2...

I did not check that list against the out-of-the-box Layer Key Styles to see if they missed any.  If they did, then you would have to do what you indicated - place objects, note the layer, and then check the current Layer Key Style to see what Layer Key is associated with that layer, and compile your own, extended table.  (Or, perhaps someone else has already done so, and posted their findings to the internet someplace.)

The descriptions in the Layer Key Styles may also prove useful in determining what objects belong to a given Layer Key.
